MOVE-IN DAY
Welcome to Cadelle, cuddlers! The city is — for the most part, at least — very happy with the first wave of volunteers who have chosen to spend time here! To help everyone get settled a little easier, Mayor Drake and her team have put together a series of helpful booths, each staffed by friendly citizen volunteers who are more than ready to answer any questions characters may have.
▸ First things first: visitors will need to visit City Hall to officially enroll as a Cadelle citizen. Once complete, they'll receive their Welcome Packet, which will include all of the most important items for settling in. Characters will find keys to their apartment and associated mail box, their housing assignment, and their pre-activated CuddleCard, ready to go. In addition, the volunteer coordinators have included a newly printed map of the city, as well as contact information for various city-run organizations, just in case!
▸ Due to the influx of energy from all of the new visitors, the city’s computer systems have been experiencing some "minor hiccups". While this is nothing to be concerned about, characters may find themselves mildly inconvenienced — they may have received keys that don’t work in their door, or been issued someone else's room assignment unknowingly!
▸ If they've arrived during regular business hours, characters are, of course, able to visit the maintenance office on the first floor of each building for help switching out their mismatched keys or determining their correct assignment. However, getting settled after hours will require a little extra creative problem solving — like asking a new friend if sharing a bed for the night seems reasonable, sleeping on the couches in the public lounges downstairs, or maybe even roughing it for the night outdoors. (Of course, there's always the frowned-upon methods of breaking and entering... not that you heard it from us!)
▸ As with any move-in day, there’s bound to be lots to see and do. Characters may need help carrying their things, or even just help finding their way around. If they're lucky enough to find their room without problem, they may not be so lucky in their assignment. They may find themselves living underneath someone who's got to be part elephant (who stomps that much at 6 AM?!) or just above someone who insists on burning every batch of popcorn they make! Get out there, meet the neighbors, and see what this city has to offer!
CITY SCAVENGER HUNT
A few days after the big move-in weekend, characters will find an unread message on their CuddlePhone, encouraging them to check out the CuddleTalk network for a very special message from two very special guests. When they do, they’ll find a cute (but admittedly very cheesy) video message from Cadelle’s volunteer coordinators, Flora and Cornelius. The video highlights a few of the most popular destinations in the city — Blaze Pizza, for example, the home of the ninety-second wood-fired pizza, or Dinah’s, where you can enjoy a literal bucket of fries perfect for sharing.
At the end of the video, a link will come up for characters to click if they are so inclined. They’ll be directed to a sign-up page for a city-wide scavenger hunt, with a grand prize promised for the first team to complete the challenge.
Want to participate?
▸ Characters will be able to sign up for the scavenger hunt either on their own or with a friend. (The prizes remain the same regardless of the size of the team, so if your character wants all the money for themselves, they'll either want to race it alone or pick a very generous teammate!)
▸ Among the many delicious dining destinations around Cadelle, characters will discover three venues that the volunteer coordinators have tapped as their current favorites. Somewhere in those three venues, characters will find a beautiful framed photo of Flora and Cornelius.

▸ When characters find the photo, they'll be instructed to take their best selfie, being sure to capture themselves, the framed snapshot, and their teammate (if they chose to bring one along) in the shot.
▸ The first group to send in all three selfies will win the grand prize — one month's stipend worth of extra CuddleBucks! However, all competitors who complete the challenge will be rewarded with a token of appreciation — one week's stipend worth of CuddleBucks, just for playing along!
▸ While characters explore the city, they just might find some "bonus" surprises along the way. Keep your eyes peeled!
Helpful Hint: To find the secret locations (and any hidden bonuses along the way), check out our CITY DIRECTORY for all the amazing destinations your character can explore! Feel free to sort by category on the left, and click your way through your first big adventure in the big city!
Mod Note: For fairness, the "grand prize" winner will be determined by RNG in a drawing on August 4 at 3:00 PM. If your character would like to be eligible to win the grand prize, please be sure to leave us a comment so we can include them in the drawing!
|
▸ GRAND PRIZE SIGN-UPS
However, we still want our players (ourselves included!) to have some fun with this event, so while your questionnaire answers won't determine who wins or loses, we hope you'll take a moment to consider how your character might attack this great challenge. (Or not. Maybe they're into poverty and never leaving home. Oscar the Grouch would approve.)

Character Name: Porpentina Goldstein
Teammate: Credence Barebone
What's their plan? Since Tina had arrived, she would have been doing her absolute best to all but completely memorize the map. She's a New Yorker, so she's used to knowing city streets and the best way to go about them. She may not have actually stopped and dined at every restaurant she found, but she has walked by a good portion of them. She's also fairly competitive, and would probably be down to just run around the city with Credence for the fun of it. She will do her best to keep them on task and just try and hit as many places as they can, but there is a good chance they will get distracted along the way (especially in bookstores.....whoops.)

What's their plan? dean's first pit stops absolutely include: pie and burgers, and somewhere to pick up beer. while others are probably worried about other first night essentials at their place, that'd definitely be his go to's. other than that, by sundown he's at colonel's, propped up at the bar as if it's just another day in the office ( that never really exists )of a hunter. he's not entirely sure how he feels about everything, so laying low unless company joins his side at their own leisure is more his pace.

( not that she's unhappy to see her. which is exactly what that sounds like. disgruntled and unhappy about being woken up, sure, but not so much about the company behind it.
blinking the grogginess out of her eyes, she listens as clary tries to explain the rationale for her visit. something about a scavenger hunt, and food, and money, which was never really a bad reason to do anything as far as she's concerned. plus the invitation to loop kimberly in on her potential winnings.
it wasn't like she had anything to lose, right? )
Am I... yeah, yeah, that sounds great. Let me put, like, actual clothes on, though? Two seconds.

MOVE-IN DAY aka IT'S A METAPHOR @ Beta?? Residence
WILD CARD aka PROBABLY A BAR @ wherever.
probably a bar
But superpowers only do so much and if Cadelle can keep their promise, Kate sees no reason not to move on to this place in her quest to fix the last hours back at home.
Whatever. For now, what Kate really wants to concentrate on is the fact that, like Eudio, this city is host to some wonderful bars. She doesn't bother to check the name, just the chalkboard offering specials, and shifts her way through a throng of people to get to the bar. However many of these people are new, she's not sure, and it isn't a priority when there's beer on tap.
And, tap tap tap. It is going to take ages, isn't it? )
Waited long?
( Hi, stranger. )

kate galloway.
( She got her wish. At least, that's what they said. Kate skipped straight from one offer to another, a knot of anxiety in her stomach that there's some unwritten part of her original deal that will leave her unable to do anything when she goes home, that writes off the months in the city of Eudio because she didn't use the right words or something equally petty. Enter: Cadelle, offering another adventure like before, if you define adventure as anything entirely unlike your daily life. Another city that asks for nothing more than some attempts at doing the nice thing. The right thing.
It's another mission. Just one more hurdle to jump before things are right again.
One more hurdle... and a shit-ton of bureaucracy.
Kate's as noticable for her hair - near-fluroescent pink falling to her waist (probably less impressive when you note she's all of 5'3") - as she is the sheer energy with which she buzzes. Never quite still while she's in the queue, her foot taps restlessly or she shifts from side to side, biting back sighs of irritation as the clock ticks. )
C'mon...
( Talking to the counter by the clock, trying to will it to flick through the next ten numbers or so, is definitely going to work, right? )
two / conch cove
( Moving in can be less than eventful when the sum of your city possessions are the clothes with which you arrived. Or, more accurately, when your key doesn't work for your apartment at all and the city hall's closed by the time you find out that. Not the best start to a new life, not by far.
Kate's feet take her around the city while she tries to figure out what to do about it. So far the winner is keep walking until it's time for city hall to open again. She's a superhuman, and no stranger to sleepless nights. Just keep moving, which is what she's best at. Keep going until the sun rises over the city and the tide shifts-
There's something about the beach that's like a magnetic pull, where things seem endless. If Kate could fly, she could spring into the air and go anywhere. It's why she loves the rooftops back home so much. The space, the views that go on for miles. And the fact that it's way easier to traverse a busy city from up above than it is on the streets with people rushing around, traffic making you grind to a halt.
Her feet kick sand up like its dust in a construction site, steps quickening, balance shifting to accommodate for the movement of the ground beneath her as she starts running, for the lack of anything else to do.
Maybe give her a running partner? Or just question why someone's doing their workout in a hoodie, boots and black skinny jeans. That too. )

surprise, binch ... surprise, beach?
for will, it's — weirdly, a reminder a home. which makes him feel stupid for even seeking it out in the first place, considering the whole reason he's even here in yet another whack ass magical city is to get away from home. but it reminds him of when things were okay back home, when him and his two best friends and heather could say fuck it and scramble into tunny's beat up car and drive north to the beach, start a bonfire, get wasted, probably end up skinny dipping and full of regrets. but at least it was fun and they could be carefree and not give a shit.
it's just about the polar opposite now. the sun's pretty much set by now, last flickers of pinkish orange looming above the line where the sky meets the ocean waves, and will's just sitting right in the sand with a cigarette, a leg pulled up towards his chest as he watches the waves come in. there's probably sand in his converses — probably in his skinny jeans, too. but fuck it, he's wallowing ... self-reflecting ... trying to figure out if he's even doing the right thing by sticking around this place.
well, he meant cadelle in general. the beach is apparently the right place to be, considering will sees hot pink in the distance and he squints a little to confirm that — yes, he is in fact seeing kate running across the beach, looking like her life depends on it. again. jesus, does she ever stop running?
will's apparently not going to stop interrupting her running. instead, he calls: ) Kate! ( and gives a half-hearted wave that's fully genuine on the inside. )

Which is just. Ugh. Let's not talk about that. City hall's closed and the only thing there is to do is try and learn what about this city differs from Eudio. To learn the streets and stores - where a girl can buy groceries or, more importantly, tequila.
Much like Dean, Kate finds herself in here because it's discreet. It's easy to overlook as what it is, though the name of the store clicks as soon as she steps inside, lips pursing together and eyebrows raising. Welp.
The oldest business in the book, isn't it? )
Didn't notice that when we got th' offer?
( Because what everyone in their life needs is a drawling response from a Lancastrian accent as Kate leans over to pick out something less golden, but no less impressive in its design - some gaudy black and white creation made with what looks like dollops of hot glue.

[ In truth, getting situated at City Hall is a little overwhelming. There's a lot of people and well he's having to talk and that's always a bit awkward and he doesn't really lift his head much in the process of getting his welcome packet.
You might hear quiet excuses mes and pardons as he makes his way out and heads to his assigned housing on Gamma, Floor 1. He's not carrying a lot just one bag and if he saw anyone struggling he'd certainly offer to help -- whether or not his quiet words are heard or understood is another matter but if they look at him his face is kind and open and there's a sorta hopeful aura around him.
Once he gets to the North door of his floor he tries his key and then the door and it doesn't open. He tries it again -- at least three more times and then looks around a little lost. It's hard for him to tell if he's doing something wrong somehow or he has the wrong door which is the next thing that he checks.

[Registration wasn't a both for her, nor was finding her way to the Alpha building to find her apartment. Even the odd looks she may receive for her choice of attire. None of this bothers the Good witch, who carries herself with poise and confidence through the city and up to the fourth floor, lost in her own thoughts.
Then again, maybe those strange looks are because of the trunks she had floating behind her as she held onto her wand and the Grimmerie tightly. She's not among those that had trouble with their keys- thankfully. Otherwise the hall would be crowded with her trunks.
Still, as the trunks went in first and she followed, she stopped just past the door and frowned.] Well, this just won't do.
[Smaller than the politician was used to- she'd just have to make do. Later. For now she sets the trunks to the side with a sigh, locks up the Grimmerie, and makes her way down to the common area- to see if anyone needs help for a while.]

[While many of the other newcomers were making their way to the local bars and pubs, Glinda found herself gravitating towards the tea shop. She looks rather picturesque, seated near a window with a plate of treats and pot of jasmine tea.
There's enough room for someone to join her and she's glad for the company. Just look at that bubbly smile she grants to anyone who looks her way as they pass!]

So when she's closer, he offers her a small smile and nods. ]

[Sansa has her welcoming packet and her key even though it is unlike any key she's ever seen. She had hardly been conscious of the wish she'd made but once she'd found herself here, in Cadelle, the wish made perfect sense. This is a place she can seek respite from Westeros and from Winterfell and for once she's not worried about feeding hundreds of people for the winter or hordes of enemies encroaching from both north and south. She feels as if a weight has been lifted from her slim shoulders, a chain broken, and she steels herself to explore this new place and discover what it has to offer her.
It seems, though, that the key she's been given doesn't open her room in Beta Building, Floor Three, East Unit and when she opens the door, someone else has taken up residence. It's shocking, yes, but Sansa tries to mask her surprise with a mild look and a soft question.]

[After finally straightening out the mess with her room, Sansa decides to go out and explore the city. She knows very little about the device she's been given but the instructions indicate she can win some sort of prize if she succeeds in the hunt. She is competitive, in her way, and she spends a while searching out each location. She fumbles when it comes to taking photographs, though, because the concept of a selfie or even a photograph is foreign to her coming from Westeros. She finally asks for assistance after fumbling through a few shots and getting nothing but a streak of red hair or a brick wall.]

{Kal was one of the fortunate few to not face a faulty key card or mixed up room assignment. He was one of the first people that morning in and out of City Hall. The new limitations to his powers were just as freeing as they were disconcerting, and he was afraid it would take some time getting used to only being able to focus his hearing and sight within a certain range. He'd also have to remember not to try and stop any large moving vehicles anytime soon.
He understood their reasoning behind the limitations to his abilities all too well, he just hoped nothing came to bite him on the ass. The whole point was a wish to protect Jon and Lois. Limiting his capabilities didn't seem in the best interest of that wish, but he'd agreed to abide by their rules and this was clearly a large one.
Not that a few silly limitations would stop him from meeting and helping out his neighbors, or anyone else, really, that saw him carting something around and asked for his help. Most people wouldn't even have to ask. If Kal spotted them carrying something awkward or heavy he'd be right there with an offer.}
Would you like a hand with that?
ii: Exploring the City - in person or un: superdad
A - Planetarium {Curious as Kal is he'll be starting his in-depth exploration of Cadelle with the macro-scope of his current location. Then he'll work on narrowing it down to the immediate buildings he has access to. He posts a series of pictures from the planetarium labeled with the surrounding solar systems.}
Out of curiosity, does anyone recognize these solar systems or a planet from them? I thought it might be interesting if someone wasn't quite as far off of a visitor as everyone else.
B - Sweet Creamery {The video is obviously not meant to broadcast. The camera is half obscured by shadow and plaid. The other half shows his large hand wrapped around a massive ice cream cone as he brings it up and then down again, having eaten some. His voice is wistful, talking to himself.}
Jon would love this place.

Are you having trouble finding your room? I could help, possibly, if you have your welcome packet and your key.
(Diana isn't one to stand idly by when there's things to be done and when she isn't helping someone navigate the building, she's helping to move things, shift furniture, or even take photographs for those who have chosen to go on the scavenger hunt.)

Diana?
{She looks a bit different than his good friends, but that was often the case in other universes. She might not be Princess Diana at all, just a woman of remarkably similar appearance, but it never hurt to ask.}

"A lot of people's keys are incorrect for some reason." He offers from a short way down the hallway. "You could try to trade around with them, or go back to the organizers."

alpha building
A loud SMACK somehow mixed with a THUD, like a boot slamming against a door, and then a delayed BOOM as that very same door face-plants onto the floor.
She freezes. ] Oh my god what just happened. [ Yes, she's talking to herself in this empty, beautiful apartment. But in the next second, she leaves her phone on the table and anxiously walks over to her front door. ]
It's okay. [ She mutters. ] So it's your first day and a neighbor's probably getting robbed. Viciously. [ Her hand moves to the knob. ] And that's why you're opening the door right now. To see. That vicious robber.
[ She creaks her door open, very slowly at first, but that just feels silly after awhile, so she pushes it as far as her arm can extend and peeks her head out the door. ]
Hell-[ Uhhhhhhh. A very strong, very confident, bo-staff-carrying blonde is standing her neighbor's doorway, right at the opposite end of the hall. ]-oooo?

Elizabeth Swann | ota
[Meet one Elizabeth Swann. Newly appointed Pirate King. Recently betrayed by the man she loves, lost a man who loved her and learned of her father's murder. She had every reason to be here- she had more to question why she was.
That was neither here nor there as she made her way to the Beta building with a trunk of her belongings dragging behind her, as well as a packet, key and weapons permit in hand. There was no need for her sword and pistol, she was sure, but it made her feel all the better having them on her hip- at least for the time being.
If she's not offered help, she manages to drag her trunk up a flight of stairs to the second floor and, thanks to her compass, manages to find the north apartment- only for her key to break in the door knob.]
You must be bloody kidding me.
The Colonel's & Criminales
[Still clad in the clothing from Sao Feng's ship, Elizabeth found her way to one of the bars that had been suggested to her. She would deal with her room situation later- she was just now beginning to understand why pirates drank so much, apart from the lack of drinkable water on ships.
She walked into The Colonel's and was immediately dumbfounded, for lack of a better word. The wall of alcohol was more than a little intimidating and she's definitely out of her comfort zone.
Later, however, she can be found at Criminales- and whether it's because of the drink she may have had at the Colonel's or not, she looks far more in her comfort zone here. Though she grew up every bit prim and proper, her company as of the past couple of years was more of the sort that would frequent this establishment. She's found a spot at the bar, ale in hand, all the while keeping an eye on whoever else was in the bar.]

▸ i know this bar
she doesn't look three sheets to the wind, which is a good thing in his book, but she does look like she's at least had one to loosen her up. mick's always had a soft spot for strong women and this stranger looks like she might just be one. so don't mind him as he finishes up with one of the bar's less than savory types and sidles on over until he's parked in front of her.
her beer isn't empty. not yet, at any rate. but what kind of bartender would he be if he ignored his patrons.]
Looks like you're about ready for a refill. What'll it be?

Wildcard; coffee date
Derek goes for his morning run like he always does, because a change of scenery isn't going to change his routine, and this morning he decides to take a shower before he goes for coffee, specifically because he's meeting Felicity. It's probably the fastest shower he's ever taken and it's another quick run — jog, really — to get to the coffee shop.
As he walks in, he sees her and smiles to himself before making his way right up to her. "Morning. I wasn't sure you'd come," he admits a little sheepishly. The way he'd approached asking her was a little more humor-laced than he's usually used to doing these things and he wasn't sure she'd believe him. "I'm glad you did."
