EVENT 001: WELCOME WEEK

MOVE-IN DAY

Welcome to Cadelle, cuddlers! The city is — for the most part, at least — very happy with the first wave of volunteers who have chosen to spend time here! To help everyone get settled a little easier, Mayor Drake and her team have put together a series of helpful booths, each staffed by friendly citizen volunteers who are more than ready to answer any questions characters may have.

First things first: visitors will need to visit City Hall to officially enroll as a Cadelle citizen. Once complete, they'll receive their Welcome Packet, which will include all of the most important items for settling in. Characters will find keys to their apartment and associated mail box, their housing assignment, and their pre-activated CuddleCard, ready to go. In addition, the volunteer coordinators have included a newly printed map of the city, as well as contact information for various city-run organizations, just in case!

▸ Due to the influx of energy from all of the new visitors, the city’s computer systems have been experiencing some "minor hiccups". While this is nothing to be concerned about, characters may find themselves mildly inconvenienced — they may have received keys that don’t work in their door, or been issued someone else's room assignment unknowingly!

▸ If they've arrived during regular business hours, characters are, of course, able to visit the maintenance office on the first floor of each building for help switching out their mismatched keys or determining their correct assignment. However, getting settled after hours will require a little extra creative problem solving — like asking a new friend if sharing a bed for the night seems reasonable, sleeping on the couches in the public lounges downstairs, or maybe even roughing it for the night outdoors. (Of course, there's always the frowned-upon methods of breaking and entering... not that you heard it from us!)

▸ As with any move-in day, there’s bound to be lots to see and do. Characters may need help carrying their things, or even just help finding their way around. If they're lucky enough to find their room without problem, they may not be so lucky in their assignment. They may find themselves living underneath someone who's got to be part elephant (who stomps that much at 6 AM?!) or just above someone who insists on burning every batch of popcorn they make! Get out there, meet the neighbors, and see what this city has to offer!

CITY SCAVENGER HUNT

A few days after the big move-in weekend, characters will find an unread message on their CuddlePhone, encouraging them to check out the CuddleTalk network for a very special message from two very special guests. When they do, they’ll find a cute (but admittedly very cheesy) video message from Cadelle’s volunteer coordinators, Flora and Cornelius. The video highlights a few of the most popular destinations in the city — Blaze Pizza, for example, the home of the ninety-second wood-fired pizza, or Dinah’s, where you can enjoy a literal bucket of fries perfect for sharing.

At the end of the video, a link will come up for characters to click if they are so inclined. They’ll be directed to a sign-up page for a city-wide scavenger hunt, with a grand prize promised for the first team to complete the challenge.

Want to participate?

▸ Characters will be able to sign up for the scavenger hunt either on their own or with a friend. (The prizes remain the same regardless of the size of the team, so if your character wants all the money for themselves, they'll either want to race it alone or pick a very generous teammate!)

▸ Among the many delicious dining destinations around Cadelle, characters will discover three venues that the volunteer coordinators have tapped as their current favorites. Somewhere in those three venues, characters will find a beautiful framed photo of Flora and Cornelius.

▸ When characters find the photo, they'll be instructed to take their best selfie, being sure to capture themselves, the framed snapshot, and their teammate (if they chose to bring one along) in the shot.

▸ The first group to send in all three selfies will win the grand prizeone month's stipend worth of extra CuddleBucks! However, all competitors who complete the challenge will be rewarded with a token of appreciationone week's stipend worth of CuddleBucks, just for playing along!

▸ While characters explore the city, they just might find some "bonus" surprises along the way. Keep your eyes peeled!

Helpful Hint: To find the secret locations (and any hidden bonuses along the way), check out our CITY DIRECTORY for all the amazing destinations your character can explore! Feel free to sort by category on the left, and click your way through your first big adventure in the big city!

Mod Note: For fairness, the "grand prize" winner will be determined by RNG in a drawing on August 4 at 3:00 PM. If your character would like to be eligible to win the grand prize, please be sure to leave us a comment so we can include them in the drawing!

SCAVENGER HUNT aka QUITTING FOR WINNERS @ Dinah's

[ Ah, what the hell. She's not technically here under duress. She's already taking a chance on this place, might as well keep the gamble going, and besides, she used to really like scavenger hunts as a kid. This is the bare minimum of justification she has to go through in order to participate in just about anything, so convincing herself of it isn't any extra burden.

Private investigator is, after all, a grown-up scavenger hunter, when it comes down to brass tacks. Case closed.

It's a decently entertaining solo venture, on which she gets her bearings and eyes people in passing. Pizza place is cute but not really her deal, and too many newbies like her are coming and going through it. With no one slowing her down, Jess blasts through her first and second venues and ends up at Dinah's. There she finds the Stepford photo and the instructions on how to proceed, at which she scoffs derisively. Okay, fuck scavenger hunts actually.

Jess crumples up The Perfect Couple and asks the staff what they've got instead of read the menu. She hunkers down near the window with a bucket of fries and some condiments in paper cups, to people watch. Once a big enough group comes in to keep the staff busy, she intends to slip in among them or behind them and make off with the bucket that she's not allowed to leave the restaurant with, keeping you between her and the eyes of Dinah's proprietors. She's gonna get something out of this stupid kid's game they tricked her into playing.

Jessica Jones has won a bucket. ]

MOVE-IN DAY aka IT'S A METAPHOR @ Beta?? Residence

[ An NYC lifer, Jess is used to busy, bustling streets... full of other New Yorkers, who know how to behave in foot traffic. The other Cadell...ans, Cadellites? Cadellese? She's sure she overheard someone say it but she didn't bother hanging onto the information. The other idiots like her are all technically tourists and most of them walk like it. When Jess isn't ducking into one of the emptier businesses to pretend to browse and/or slake the gist of the local economy's vibe, she takes her chances walking on the street, and spends most of the day mapping the place with her feet without sparing a glance at her map.

As the day winds toward evening, Jess has another pass by the residences, and without a visible queue of people from the street, opts for that moment to go and check out her place. Her place, in front of which you may find her swearing when her goddamn keys don't work, and not bothering to look around before wrapping her fingers around the door knob and twisting it beyond a brief metallic wean and the crack of cheap wood. Or good wood. Who knows.

Her place, maybe not so much her place? Did they screw up on the door number too? If so, ]
Uh, hey. [ Screw it. It's not her fault the bureaucrats can't get their crap together in any universe. Her place now. ] Get out?

[ Don't forget there's always the scenario behind door number three: She got the right room number, wrong building. If someone else is doing one, feel free to do the other; I have no limit on the amount of doors and lives she can fuck up in a day. ]

WILD CARD aka PROBABLY A BAR @ wherever.

[ Do whatever! PP or add my plurk [plurk.com profile] lungful if you'd like to plot first, though it's not necessary. All CR is good CR to me! Texting, action, or prose, all welcome. Her OKC and IC inbox can be found... there. ]

( There's a lot to be said about the general weirdness of this concept, even after months in Eudio. That whole cities are crying out for people to bond and play house for a few months in exchange for anything they could want, it all sounds so ridiculous when laid out like that.

But superpowers only do so much and if Cadelle can keep their promise, Kate sees no reason not to move on to this place in her quest to fix the last hours back at home.

Whatever. For now, what Kate really wants to concentrate on is the fact that, like Eudio, this city is host to some wonderful bars. She doesn't bother to check the name, just the chalkboard offering specials, and shifts her way through a throng of people to get to the bar. However many of these people are new, she's not sure, and it isn't a priority when there's beer on tap.

And, tap tap tap. It is going to take ages, isn't it?
)

Waited long?

( Hi, stranger. )

[ Jess has managed to avoid a lot of socializing for the day, trying to get used to a new city after spending her life in just the one. Not for the first time, she flicks through the app on her phone that lists all the other residents, without marking any of them. When she looks up, she tries to remember what the blurb on Pink Hair said, but all she can dig up is pink hair. ]

A few minutes. Guess it's a busy day. [ Speaking of superpowers, her breath is already whiskey-laden despite her lack of drink and relative composure. ]

( That's all Kate needs anyone to know. Having that profile out for everyone to see is awkward, just as it was in Eudio. The pink hair is as close as she gets to pulling attention towards herself, and that's as much habit as anything else. )

Seems so.

( Maybe everyone had the same idea. Great minds, or a lot of alcoholics.

Silence passes until a bartender finally takes Kate's order - one pint, off tap - and she shifts, shoulders lifting. God, you think she'd be used to the getting to know you thing after Eudio, but it still feels like wearing the wrong size shoes.
)

Erm. Where're you placed?

( Apartment-wise.

She's trying, bless her. Let her get drunk first.
)
