EVENT 001: WELCOME WEEK

MOVE-IN DAY Welcome to Cadelle, cuddlers! The city is — for the most part, at least — very happy with the first wave of volunteers who have chosen to spend time here! To help everyone get settled a little easier, Mayor Drake and her team have put together a series of helpful booths, each staffed by friendly citizen volunteers who are more than ready to answer any questions characters may have. ▸ First things first: visitors will need to visit City Hall to officially enroll as a Cadelle citizen. Once complete, they'll receive their Welcome Packet, which will include all of the most important items for settling in. Characters will find keys to their apartment and associated mail box, their housing assignment, and their pre-activated CuddleCard, ready to go. In addition, the volunteer coordinators have included a newly printed map of the city, as well as contact information for various city-run organizations, just in case! ▸ Due to the influx of energy from all of the new visitors, the city’s computer systems have been experiencing some "minor hiccups". While this is nothing to be concerned about, characters may find themselves mildly inconvenienced — they may have received keys that don’t work in their door, or been issued someone else's room assignment unknowingly! ▸ If they've arrived during regular business hours, characters are, of course, able to visit the maintenance office on the first floor of each building for help switching out their mismatched keys or determining their correct assignment. However, getting settled after hours will require a little extra creative problem solving — like asking a new friend if sharing a bed for the night seems reasonable, sleeping on the couches in the public lounges downstairs, or maybe even roughing it for the night outdoors. (Of course, there's always the frowned-upon methods of breaking and entering... not that you heard it from us!) ▸ As with any move-in day, there’s bound to be lots to see and do. Characters may need help carrying their things, or even just help finding their way around. If they're lucky enough to find their room without problem, they may not be so lucky in their assignment. They may find themselves living underneath someone who's got to be part elephant (who stomps that much at 6 AM?!) or just above someone who insists on burning every batch of popcorn they make! Get out there, meet the neighbors, and see what this city has to offer! CITY SCAVENGER HUNT A few days after the big move-in weekend, characters will find an unread message on their CuddlePhone, encouraging them to check out the CuddleTalk network for a very special message from two very special guests. When they do, they’ll find a cute (but admittedly very cheesy) video message from Cadelle’s volunteer coordinators, Flora and Cornelius. The video highlights a few of the most popular destinations in the city — Blaze Pizza, for example, the home of the ninety-second wood-fired pizza, or Dinah’s, where you can enjoy a literal bucket of fries perfect for sharing. At the end of the video, a link will come up for characters to click if they are so inclined. They’ll be directed to a sign-up page for a city-wide scavenger hunt, with a grand prize promised for the first team to complete the challenge. Want to participate? ▸ Characters will be able to sign up for the scavenger hunt either on their own or with a friend. (The prizes remain the same regardless of the size of the team, so if your character wants all the money for themselves, they'll either want to race it alone or pick a very generous teammate!) ▸ Among the many delicious dining destinations around Cadelle, characters will discover three venues that the volunteer coordinators have tapped as their current favorites. Somewhere in those three venues, characters will find a beautiful framed photo of Flora and Cornelius. ▸ When characters find the photo, they'll be instructed to take their best selfie, being sure to capture themselves, the framed snapshot, and their teammate (if they chose to bring one along) in the shot. ▸ The first group to send in all three selfies will win the grand prize — one month's stipend worth of extra CuddleBucks! However, all competitors who complete the challenge will be rewarded with a token of appreciation — one week's stipend worth of CuddleBucks, just for playing along! ▸ While characters explore the city, they just might find some "bonus" surprises along the way. [ leonard snorts--kids--and slowly oozes from his pretzel configuration to standing like a normal person. ]

Not exactly the answer I was looking for, but I'll take it. [ he gives kimberly a once over, guesstimates she's probably late teens to early twenties, and bases his next question off that. ] Better or worse than cafeteria food?

[ he'd go with "prison food" or "hospital food", but your average joe hasn't had either of those. and his (admittedly fuzzy) memories of high school tell him that they're just about the same as public school caf food anyway. ]

( did she make a habit of eating cafeteria food? well, that's questionable, but the question isn't impossible to answer. a shrug of her shoulders is her initial reply, i don't know foregone in exchange for crossing the lounge to make herself comfortable on the couch opposite him. )

Better, obviously. ( it's not obvious or he wouldn't ask, but that's not the point. ) Why, need a recommendation?

It'd be helpful. [ sure, he could wander the city until he finds something that looks interesting. but who has the time for that?

well... he does, technically. and he'll end up doing that later in the week. but this is quicker and it gives him a little preview of someone who'll be living in the same building. ]

[recoined]

( does she want to be helpful? maybe. this does seem like the sort of place to embrace her inner girl scout, and if her first merit badge can come from something as painless as rattling off a few places to find decent food, she's not entirely opposed to the idea.

ticking off the numbers on her fingers, kimberly offers up a few suggestions. ) One, Dinah's — good fries, better milkshakes, actually decent burgers if you're into that. Two, Blaze — ridiculous amount of toppings, super quick, not expensive. Three, Pho Sizzle — stupid name, but actually pretty good. Their menu is huge. Like, at least fifty different things.

( her brows furrow for a moment as she tries to recall if she's gone anywhere else. clary had dragged her across the city in search of something, and they'd made a few stops along the way... )

Oh, and the donut shop, um... Glazed? Not as good as Krispy Kreme, but not bad either. They had a green tea donut thing that was weird but good at the same time.

[atms]

[ his nose scrunches up at that last bit. ] I can't decide if that sounds better or worse than a bacon donut. [ youngins and hipsters are weird.

but this one's been pretty helpful, so leonard actually thanks her with a small smile. ] Gives me a good idea of where to look.

[ he pauses. tilts his head to the side. ] What's your name, kid?

[recoined]

Better, definitely. ( a mirrored expression; her tongue sticks out in exaggerated disgust for a moment. ) I still don't get the whole 'put bacon on everything' thing.

( a quick reach between the waistband of her yoga pants — what's easily become her cuddle city wardrobe of choice these last few days — and her hip reveals her cuddlephone. after a few taps of her fingertips and a lazy swipe, kimberly flips the screen around, revealing the directory highlighted on food venues around the city. )

You can sort by, you know, reviews and cuisine type and whatever you're feeling. It's actually kind of handy? If you haven't looked at it yet...

( and then, to answer his question, which she realizes after a moment she's totally ignored: ) Oh, I'm Kimberly.

Wow. [ he raises an eyebrow as he looks at her phone, tone going very, very dry. ] A version of Yelp that isn't completely useless.

[ leonard tucks his hands into his pockets. ] Leonard. Thanks for the tip, Kimberly. You need any help [ within reason ] let me know. Quid pro quo and all that.

[recoined]

( listen, grandpa, yelp can be super useful if you actually know how to use it. her millennial malcontent rears its ugly head for a moment, snappy reply almost ready to come out, before kimberly decides: you know what? it's not worth it.

she's not going to be the mean girl here. she's turned over that leaf, remember? be the person you want to be. so, instead, she shrugs, offers a small smile in return, and pulls her legs a little closer in. even if he's on his way out, she can be comfortable in the lounge area for a bit. maybe she'll find someone else to help her earn a merit badge. )

Yeah? I'll keep that in mind, then. ( a beat, and then: ) Oh, wait, hang on. Give me your phone.

[atms]

[ leonard squints at her a little suspiciously before pulling his phone out of his back pocket and handing it to her. ]

I've got the number memorized and can just give it to you, if that's what you're looking for.

[recoined]

( sure, okay, if it was just about the number exchange. but kimberly's at least trying to fully embrace the Helpfulness Concept here, as far as her food recommendations go, so her first order of business is to find and download the directory application. once it opens, a few quick taps and swipes leaves her recommended places in a short list, easily accessible from the main menu, that can be edited upon further review. )

In case you forget. ( and then, of course, she'll add her own number to his phone — Kimberly Hart, third floor — and dial it, ending the call once her own phone buzzes in receipt. ) Also, yeah, the numbers thing. In case you forget and you can't find the list.

[ he rolls his eyes a little as he takes his phone back, tucking into a pocket. ] I may be over thirty, [ but I'm not technologically incompetent. the opposite, actually. but he's not about to get into that with kimberly. not when there is greasy diner food calling his name. ]

I'll catch you later, kid.

[ leonard steps past her, heading for the exit to gamma building. later, after having gone and gotten himself some grub, he sends her a text message that just says You've got good taste. figuring that's enough thanks for one day. ]
