EVENT 001: WELCOME WEEK

MOVE-IN DAY

Welcome to Cadelle, cuddlers! The city is — for the most part, at least — very happy with the first wave of volunteers who have chosen to spend time here! To help everyone get settled a little easier, Mayor Drake and her team have put together a series of helpful booths, each staffed by friendly citizen volunteers who are more than ready to answer any questions characters may have.

First things first: visitors will need to visit City Hall to officially enroll as a Cadelle citizen. Once complete, they'll receive their Welcome Packet, which will include all of the most important items for settling in. Characters will find keys to their apartment and associated mail box, their housing assignment, and their pre-activated CuddleCard, ready to go. In addition, the volunteer coordinators have included a newly printed map of the city, as well as contact information for various city-run organizations, just in case!

▸ Due to the influx of energy from all of the new visitors, the city’s computer systems have been experiencing some "minor hiccups". While this is nothing to be concerned about, characters may find themselves mildly inconvenienced — they may have received keys that don’t work in their door, or been issued someone else's room assignment unknowingly!

▸ If they've arrived during regular business hours, characters are, of course, able to visit the maintenance office on the first floor of each building for help switching out their mismatched keys or determining their correct assignment. However, getting settled after hours will require a little extra creative problem solving — like asking a new friend if sharing a bed for the night seems reasonable, sleeping on the couches in the public lounges downstairs, or maybe even roughing it for the night outdoors. (Of course, there's always the frowned-upon methods of breaking and entering... not that you heard it from us!)

▸ As with any move-in day, there’s bound to be lots to see and do. Characters may need help carrying their things, or even just help finding their way around. If they're lucky enough to find their room without problem, they may not be so lucky in their assignment. They may find themselves living underneath someone who's got to be part elephant (who stomps that much at 6 AM?!) or just above someone who insists on burning every batch of popcorn they make! Get out there, meet the neighbors, and see what this city has to offer!

CITY SCAVENGER HUNT

A few days after the big move-in weekend, characters will find an unread message on their CuddlePhone, encouraging them to check out the CuddleTalk network for a very special message from two very special guests. When they do, they’ll find a cute (but admittedly very cheesy) video message from Cadelle’s volunteer coordinators, Flora and Cornelius. The video highlights a few of the most popular destinations in the city — Blaze Pizza, for example, the home of the ninety-second wood-fired pizza, or Dinah’s, where you can enjoy a literal bucket of fries perfect for sharing.

At the end of the video, a link will come up for characters to click if they are so inclined. They’ll be directed to a sign-up page for a city-wide scavenger hunt, with a grand prize promised for the first team to complete the challenge.

Want to participate?

▸ Characters will be able to sign up for the scavenger hunt either on their own or with a friend. (The prizes remain the same regardless of the size of the team, so if your character wants all the money for themselves, they'll either want to race it alone or pick a very generous teammate!)

▸ Among the many delicious dining destinations around Cadelle, characters will discover three venues that the volunteer coordinators have tapped as their current favorites. Somewhere in those three venues, characters will find a beautiful framed photo of Flora and Cornelius.

▸ When characters find the photo, they'll be instructed to take their best selfie, being sure to capture themselves, the framed snapshot, and their teammate (if they chose to bring one along) in the shot.

▸ The first group to send in all three selfies will win the grand prizeone month's stipend worth of extra CuddleBucks! However, all competitors who complete the challenge will be rewarded with a token of appreciationone week's stipend worth of CuddleBucks, just for playing along!

▸ While characters explore the city, they just might find some "bonus" surprises along the way. Keep your eyes peeled!

Helpful Hint: To find the secret locations (and any hidden bonuses along the way), check out our CITY DIRECTORY for all the amazing destinations your character can explore! Feel free to sort by category on the left, and click your way through your first big adventure in the big city!

Mod Note: For fairness, the "grand prize" winner will be determined by RNG in a drawing on August 4 at 3:00 PM. If your character would like to be eligible to win the grand prize, please be sure to leave us a comment so we can include them in the drawing!

[There are times that Elizabeth wishes she had never set foot on a pirate ship, but she wouldn't be so daft to wish that away. A lot of who she's become is because of everything she's gone through- the good and the bad.

She glances over at him when he makes his way over to her, halfway through a swig of her drink. She finishes taking a sip of the drink and lowers it slowly.]

Bar keep's choice. [It was the easier way to order when she had no clue what she was doing. She drank out of necessity more than having a taste for it.] Surprise me?

[criminales doesn't have the best assortment of beer and spirits known to man, but they do the job. the lady definitely looks like she could use something that's a little smoother going down than the beer that she's currently sporting. which is why mick reaches for the private stash, because he owns the place and if he wants to serve the lady something that's off the menu, why he will do as he damn well pleases.

it's a bottle of whiskey, light amber in color, not unlike one he'd shared with a dear old friend after a job nearly gone wrong. mick unscrews the cap and pours two healthy glasses. no drinking on the job is for the staff. call it owner's privilege. he nudges one to her before he takes a sip of his own.]

There you go. It's not every day that a woman walks up to my bar alone. If you feel like telling me a story, I'll be happy to pretend to listen. [it might not be the nicest statement ever made by a bartender, but at least he's being honest here about being awful company when it comes to currying for sympathy and those late night conversations with the man who serves you drinks for a nominal fee.]

[Elizabeth watches him pull out the bottle and pour the whiskey. Drinking anything apart from wine is a new experience for her- ale and beer are more akin to what she'd see on the ships. Or the rice mead that Sao Feng was so fond of keeping on his ships.

She pushes the beer aside, still a few sips left in it but curiosity has the better of her.]

Thank you. [... Was it okay to thank someone in an establishment like this? These are the things she's still not certain of. She takes a sip of the whiskey, willing herself not to make a face at the taste- there's an image she has to uphold after all.]

There's no story worth telling. [She nearly lets out a laugh and takes another sip of the drink. It goes down easier this time, the taste not shocking her.] None that will be short and sweet.

[despite this being his second go around as a bartender, mick's still not accustomed to people thanking him, regardless of if that thank you is genuine or just out of social obligation. he offers up a curt nod in reply, takes another sip of his drink and watches her reaction carefully. when she successfully manages not to flinch upon first drink, mick decides that he likes her. it's not often he meets women who hold their own. the ones he knows he can count on one hand. he's happy to add another to those ranks.]

The best ones are messy and take up too long to tell. [it's moments like these that he wishes leonard was nearby. he'd know what to say. mick's always been better with action.] But I won't press if you don't feel like talkin'. More drinking less feelings sound good?

No one has the attention span, feigned or not, for the long ones. [Not even Elizabeth- she wasn't sure she wanted to relive the past several months, much less the past few years that it took to get here there. Another sip of whiskey and she's offering him a slight grin.]

More drinking, less feelings sounds perfect. After all, nothing that's happened back home truly matters here, in the grand scheme of things.

You're pretty smart, lady. [he offers her a grin and a wink as he pours himself another glass. mick raises it. ]

Here's to not thinking about the shitstorm that's our real lives.

Elizabeth. [She offers. Though 'lady' hadn't been used as a title, she'll still feel more comfortable with her own name than any honorific. Elizabeth smiles and huffs out a short laugh, lifting her glass as well.]

I'll drink to that. And to whatever comfort we can find here.

Pleasure to meet you, Elizabeth. [mick, surprising himself most of all, actually means those words.]

Best comfort I've got is right here in this bottle. Probably a little sad, but it's the little things in life. [and with that he tips his glass back and drains it with flourish.]
pyrateking: (008)

[personal profile] pyrateking 2017-08-20 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
To the little things, then. [Elizabeth grins and takes a sip of her drink- not enough to drain the rest of it, and perhaps that's where her inexperience shows...]

May I ask: have you been here long? You seem... well adapted.
kelvins: (219964_100)

[personal profile] kelvins 2017-08-22 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[he's not too worried about her lack of experience. everyone starts somewhere, and he's had a very long time to develop this particularly bad habit of his.]

Here specifically? Nah. I came with the big rush of people, but it's not the first time I've been in a place like this, or the first time I've stood behind a bar to serve drinks.

Let me let you in on a secret though. [and he leans in close to offer up a wink and a stage whisper.] It ain't about how well you fit in. It's about how well you can fake it.

[personal profile] pyrateking 2017-08-26 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
There's other places like this?

[That was news to her- so much that she pauses for a moment as she lifts her glass. Of course she never imagined a place such as this could exist, not even in her wildest dreams.

Regardless, she takes that sip as he leans in closer with his 'secret'- and as she lets the glass down she smiles. Perhaps the first genuine smile since arriving. (And even before. When did she smile last????]

That's very sound advice. If that's the secret to being here, I should be fine.

Yeah. But the last one I was in shut its doors and sent us packing. Still pissed about that.

[mick hadn't handled the trip home from eudio especially well. sure his incentive had been met. he got to see leonard snart alive and well, but then the whole world turned to shit as a result.

and in his attempts to make it right... the world just got worse. hence round two in another city. he's gonna try and make it better this time. but screw ups don't usually save the world.]

First tip's on the house. You want any more advice you'll have to buy another drink.
