EVENT 001: WELCOME WEEK

MOVE-IN DAY

Welcome to Cadelle, cuddlers! The city is — for the most part, at least — very happy with the first wave of volunteers who have chosen to spend time here! To help everyone get settled a little easier, Mayor Drake and her team have put together a series of helpful booths, each staffed by friendly citizen volunteers who are more than ready to answer any questions characters may have.

First things first: visitors will need to visit City Hall to officially enroll as a Cadelle citizen. Once complete, they'll receive their Welcome Packet, which will include all of the most important items for settling in. Characters will find keys to their apartment and associated mail box, their housing assignment, and their pre-activated CuddleCard, ready to go. In addition, the volunteer coordinators have included a newly printed map of the city, as well as contact information for various city-run organizations, just in case!

▸ Due to the influx of energy from all of the new visitors, the city’s computer systems have been experiencing some "minor hiccups". While this is nothing to be concerned about, characters may find themselves mildly inconvenienced — they may have received keys that don’t work in their door, or been issued someone else's room assignment unknowingly!

▸ If they've arrived during regular business hours, characters are, of course, able to visit the maintenance office on the first floor of each building for help switching out their mismatched keys or determining their correct assignment. However, getting settled after hours will require a little extra creative problem solving — like asking a new friend if sharing a bed for the night seems reasonable, sleeping on the couches in the public lounges downstairs, or maybe even roughing it for the night outdoors. (Of course, there's always the frowned-upon methods of breaking and entering... not that you heard it from us!)

▸ As with any move-in day, there’s bound to be lots to see and do. Characters may need help carrying their things, or even just help finding their way around. If they're lucky enough to find their room without problem, they may not be so lucky in their assignment. They may find themselves living underneath someone who's got to be part elephant (who stomps that much at 6 AM?!) or just above someone who insists on burning every batch of popcorn they make! Get out there, meet the neighbors, and see what this city has to offer!

CITY SCAVENGER HUNT

A few days after the big move-in weekend, characters will find an unread message on their CuddlePhone, encouraging them to check out the CuddleTalk network for a very special message from two very special guests. When they do, they’ll find a cute (but admittedly very cheesy) video message from Cadelle’s volunteer coordinators, Flora and Cornelius. The video highlights a few of the most popular destinations in the city — Blaze Pizza, for example, the home of the ninety-second wood-fired pizza, or Dinah’s, where you can enjoy a literal bucket of fries perfect for sharing.

At the end of the video, a link will come up for characters to click if they are so inclined. They’ll be directed to a sign-up page for a city-wide scavenger hunt, with a grand prize promised for the first team to complete the challenge.

Want to participate?

▸ Characters will be able to sign up for the scavenger hunt either on their own or with a friend. (The prizes remain the same regardless of the size of the team, so if your character wants all the money for themselves, they'll either want to race it alone or pick a very generous teammate!)

▸ Among the many delicious dining destinations around Cadelle, characters will discover three venues that the volunteer coordinators have tapped as their current favorites. Somewhere in those three venues, characters will find a beautiful framed photo of Flora and Cornelius.

▸ When characters find the photo, they'll be instructed to take their best selfie, being sure to capture themselves, the framed snapshot, and their teammate (if they chose to bring one along) in the shot.

▸ The first group to send in all three selfies will win the grand prizeone month's stipend worth of extra CuddleBucks! However, all competitors who complete the challenge will be rewarded with a token of appreciationone week's stipend worth of CuddleBucks, just for playing along!

▸ While characters explore the city, they just might find some "bonus" surprises along the way. Keep your eyes peeled!

Helpful Hint: To find the secret locations (and any hidden bonuses along the way), check out our CITY DIRECTORY for all the amazing destinations your character can explore! Feel free to sort by category on the left, and click your way through your first big adventure in the big city!

Mod Note: For fairness, the "grand prize" winner will be determined by RNG in a drawing on August 4 at 3:00 PM. If your character would like to be eligible to win the grand prize, please be sure to leave us a comment so we can include them in the drawing!

a. move in day
[Moving into a new place always came with a certain degree of stress, especially when moving in involved being in a completely different world from where you considered home. It could also be pretty stressful if the reason you were moving in to begin with was because you very recently well, died. Or at least came close enough to it that the magical wish-granting fairies of Cadelle invited you along to their city of positive energy.

Clark was trying his best not to dwell on it, at least. He had a new place to get into, a place that he was pretty eager to make comfortable too, so he'd gotten up bright and early in order to get down to city hall before making liberal use of his CuddleCard to buy a few bits and pieces, most notably a coffee machine.

He checked and double-checked his housing assignment on the packet they gave him before entering the building and climbing the flight of stairs, or was that two or three flights, before locating his door... or was that someone else's door, who knew what East facing was anyway. Regardless of which door he ended up at, he was awkwardly trying to balance the coffee machine and a couple bags in one arm while jiggling the keys into the lock. It was a stubborn old thing but that was no match for this intrepid reporter and he'd dealt with many stubborn locks before. Except maybe he was trying a little too hard when he shoulders the door, knocking it completely off its hinges where it can land, the wood lying on the floor at the same level as the jaw of the person's room he just broke into.
]

b. stuffed
[Clark wasn't necessarily participating in the Scavenger Hunt in the more normal sense, after the dust had settled with regards to the relocation of Cadelle he was mostly scavenging for good places to eat rather than clues. More than that he was trying to make a brilliant mental record of what the place had available. He'd already done a good old fashioned Birds Eye View of the place but it wasn't quite the same as treading the streets of this fantastic city.

After a long morning of walking the reporter finds himself in Stuffed which was both an apt name for the restaurant and also the condition of Clark's stomach after just half the sandwich. It was so good though and he'd been raised right, Clark Kent wasn't a wasteful man. At that perfect moment someone he vaguely recognised from around the city, a fellow wish-maker, walked into the cafe and the Kryptonian found himself waving them over and gesturing to his plate like some psychopathic grandmother who just found out you haven't eaten yet today.
] Hey... we've met before, right? This is going to sound kind of weird but, would you like half a sandwich? Its good, I promise. [Please eat his sandwich, do him this favour, he can't handle more bread. And next time he comes back here with this freshly achieved coupon, he's bringing a friend.]

c. the colonel's
[Clark definitely wasn't what you could call a barhound, but he was someone that liked to keep busy and more importantly, he was used to having a schedule that ate up every spare minute of his time. Be it through working on an article or out saving the world as Superman- after all, day and night meant very little when you could traverse timezones in the blink of an eye. It meant that as he settled into life in Cadelle he found himself seeking every opportunity to leave the apartment, for now at least.

Tonight was one such night that he did go out, finding himself at a nice enough bar with a varied collection of beer. He was sat up at the bar when someone approached, settling themselves on the bar stool beside him. Instantly Clark turned to them with a warm smile.
] Can I buy you a beer? [It turns out he was ready to offer a lot of things recently. First sandwiches, now beverages. You'd almost think he was just positively ecstatic to be alive and making the most of every little extra second he was earning here in Cadelle.]

[Hux was trying to make the most of being here; it was unlike any place he had ever been, and without any signs of real forward technology, space travel, or...or any sign of anyone who might know him or his Order, he was a bit lost.

It was a bit freeing as well--but he just wasn't sure what to do with that freedom, yet. He was a man of order and control; it was something he needed in his life, and he's find a way to put it back in eventually. It was only the first day, though, so he found himself wandering into the bar in his uniform, glancing over at the man who spoke to him, an eyebrow quirking up.]

Actually a whiskey, if you don't mind? I'm not overly fond of beer, but a drink would be excellent.

[Was it rude to switch beverage of choice, perhaps. But he knew what he liked.]

[Clark just smiles openly at the stranger, he'd seen them around the beta building at least once in passing so he knew that they were at least neighbours. At the other man's prompting Clark orders another beer for himself and a whiskey for the man in front of him.] I've never had much of a taste for spirits... beer is about my limit.

[He reaches out with a hand.] I'm Clark, you live in Beta, right? I think we're on the same floor.

[Hux gives a nod of thanks over the change.] We all have our preferences.

[Fully looking at the other man now, he does look familiar.]

I think we are, yes. My name is Hux. [He gives his hand a quick, firm shake with a gloved hand.]

Do you think this place can really deliver?

elscion: (uhhh)

[personal profile] elscion 2017-08-06 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[Clark smiles at that, nodding.] Nice to meet you, Hux. [It was a strange name, but then again... so was Kal-El so he couldn't exactly judge.

At the question though his expression turns quiet, thinking.
] On their promises? I think so... [He chews his lip thoughtfully, wondering whether or not to reveal this next tit-bit of information..] For me, they already are.

[When his drink comes, Hux gives the barkeep a nod of thanks, before focusing on Clark completely.]

Are they?

How so?

I mean, are you saying by simply existing here they've done something for you? Because that in itself is amazing, of course--but we are here as part of an exchange of services. The back end is what I'm more concerned over.

[Is it clear that Hux's people skills are more...about business? Erp.]

[Clark didn't have a lot of secrets to hide here, not when his origins and identity were pretty well kept under wraps, and also redundant which meant he could get away with letting loose certain aspects of his own story if it meant helping people come to terms with the reality of their situation.]

I died. In the moments before I arrived here in Cadelle, I was dying. They saved me from that. [He doesn't seem too emotional about it, he'd had time to come to terms with it and Cadelle had given him certain reasons to be satisfied with being here.] You're worried about what we have to do? I thought positive energy seemed easy to generate. [He grins a little.]

[personal profile] neutronium 2017-08-11 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[Given no one from his Galaxy was here, as far as he could tell, Hux was quite sure no one would find out anything about him he didn't want them to know. It was an...interesting situation, for him. It was a level of control he's never had, before.

Still, he quirks an eyebrow at the other man, focusing back on him.]

Ah, I didn't know they were capable of such things--given the power they've shown by bringing us all in, though, I shouldn't be surprised.

[Hux pursed his lips a little.]

Is it? Not everyone comes from a society or a culture [Or family] that encourages affection openly.
elscion: (Enquire)

[personal profile] elscion 2017-08-11 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Clark nods eagerly.] They are. Especially considering they seem to have gathered some friends of mine here who were able to confirm things for me. [Diana had, after all, spoken around Clark's death which meant that if he was here it had been avoided in some way.

It meant it was easier to view the powers at work here in an entirely positive light, the fact that Clark was already reaping benefits. By doing so, the people in control here in Cadelle had gotten themselves quite the spokesperson.

He frowns a little at the suggestion that not everyone could be affectionate.
] Of course, you're right. But there's still the chance to generate platonic goodwill. Helping your neighbour, offering to buy a man a drink- [He points to Hux's drink.]- even the small things, they still count.

neutronium: (Default)

[personal profile] neutronium 2017-08-12 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
It seems many people have others from their homeworlds here [Hux takes a sip of his drink; he wonders if he is unique in being alone, or just...he isn't quite sure what to think of it, yet.]

They do, yes, but if buying drinks and helping my neighbor carry groceries up the stairs are all I do, I'll be here forever, if I'm frank. [He gives him a slight droll look.] The larger, more affectionate things count for more--and some of us have high prices to pay.
elscion: (Done)

[personal profile] elscion 2017-08-13 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Something like that... [Clark wasn't about to mention that some of the people he'd met weren't quite from his home-world, yet somehow related to him. He didn't understand the way the multiverse worked, he just knew it was suddenly present in his life.]

I understand. [He nods.] I guess I do too. Have a high price, that is... resurrection can't come cheap. [He hadn't really thought about it so far and well; he'd been loyal to Lois... he didn't know how that particular aspect of the system in play here would affect him.]
neutronium: (pic#10139570)

[personal profile] neutronium 2017-08-13 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I doubt it does. [And Hux has resurrection and a government overthrow to contend with.

Pursing his lips for a moment, Hux debates what to say next. He has to get better at socializing, really.]

I've spent most of my life in one form of military training or another. Affection, fraternization...the things that we need to do here aren't second nature to me.
elscion: (Confused)

[personal profile] elscion 2017-08-16 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Clark just shakes his head but he didn't want to really dwell on the price of his own wish.]

Maybe this is the place you'll learn them, then. [He smiles slightly.] It wasn't always easy for me when I was young either, I felt... different from the other kids my age. [Which would happen, when you were an alien with super strength.]
neutronium: (pic#10142047)

[personal profile] neutronium 2017-08-18 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps. [He purses his lips as he sips his drink; he isn't so sure about that, himself, but he can hope. A rare thing for him, truly.]

I was different, as well.

[He looks into his drink.]

...I was kept apart from them, for the most part. Then I was told I had to control them, make them fear me, lest they destroy me.

I eventually did just that.
elscion: (Done)

[personal profile] elscion 2017-08-19 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Clark frowns at that particular titbit of information.] That... is an interesting upbringing. [Although Clark didn't know just how comfortable he was with someone trained for such purposes and, more importantly, someone who went on to do just that. Clark's own training had been the counterpoint for Hux's.]

My parents taught me to become one of them, to avoid scaring them, to try my best to find harmony with them. [Which he probably shouldn't have said, because it wasn't as if the other man had chosen how he was raised.]
neutronium: (pic#10139571)

[personal profile] neutronium 2017-08-21 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Interesting meant he didn't approve, most likely. Let him; it wasn't as if Hux chose it, after all.

He gave a little snort. Hux was a bit bitter over what happened to him, even if it did make him into the man he was today--strong, and powerful, on the cusp of ruling.]

That wasn't an option for me. They wanted me dead from the beginning. So it was dominate or die.

[Even as a child.

A beat, then--]

Why would they be scared of you?
elscion: (Done)

[personal profile] elscion 2017-08-22 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry... who was they? [Because that sounded very alarming if the stranger were talking about his parents. Although Hux was slowly earning himself a slot on Clark's watch list... he'd seen what domination had done to people before and what kind of personality it engendered.]

They had their reasons. [He still wasn't sure how far he was going to go with regards to telling people about his Kryptonian heritage. Of course, Kara was here and that counted for something. He just didn't know if Superman was going to exist here or if Kal-El was finally going to take his position at the helm.]
neutronium: (pic#10142048)

[personal profile] neutronium 2017-08-25 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
...the children. [Hux shakes his head a bit, and finishes the rest of his drink, ordering another.]

I know it must sound strange, to some people. But where I come from we are raised from a young age to fight. It was survive, or not. No other choice. [He was no bleeding heart, one to pour his feelings and story out to a stranger. In truth, Clark has heard more than many have ever heard in his own chain of command.]

Everyone always claims to have their 'reasons'. But those reasons being reasonable are often debatable.
elscion: (Confused)

[personal profile] elscion 2017-08-25 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Colour drains from Clark's face a little at the tale of Hux's origins and he frowns, taking a significant drink of his own beer before signalling for another.] I forget not everyone comes from a place as mundane as Earth... [Hell, Clark didn't even come from a place as mundane as Earth, but his own origins were decidedly simple compared to what he was hearing from Hux.]

In this instance I think they were fair. [Or at least, in his opinion they might have been. It wasn't like he gave them reason, but the reason was there inherently.]
neutronium: (pic#10027449)

[personal profile] neutronium 2017-08-26 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[That isn't even the half of it, Clark.]

In truth, I only spent three years of my life on a planet; the rest was mostly shuttling from one ship to the next. We rarely ever spent any significant time on a planet. But I agree, no place I come from is like Earth.

[Interesting. He'll note that for the future.]

So should people be scared of you, now?
elscion: (uhhh)

[personal profile] elscion 2017-08-26 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, so you're a spaceman? [He puts as much Kansas into the expression as he can, as if he weren't completely familiar with the idea of intergalactic species.]

Only bad people. [He was happy enough to admit that much, after all... Clark still didn't associate himself much with bad people as himself, never mind as Superman.]
neutronium: (pic#10139573)

[personal profile] neutronium 2017-08-30 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose that is a way to put it, yes.

[He isn't quite sure he believes this man, but if that is the game he wants to play, he will go with it, as well. After all, he bought a drink, and he needs to try and make some sort of connection with people.]

And who decides who is 'bad'?
elscion: (Enquire)

[personal profile] elscion 2017-08-31 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Clark smiles at that.] How interesting. [He'd say more on the matter but really, he didn't want to give away too much either.]

I guess we'd have to use a more universal definition for that one. [Clark after all had played judge more than once before; he didn't do it in quite the same was as Bruce, but he was definitely in the position to act on what he deemed right or wrong.]
neutronium: (pic#10139678)

[personal profile] neutronium 2017-09-10 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Hux tilts his head, looking at the man evenly.]

No, but truly--who decides? Is it the people in power? Is it the social constructs?

The First Order makes decisions on what is 'good' and 'bad'--and I believe our reasoning to be true and sound...

...but as the other side, and I'm quite sure they would disagree.

I would say they are wrong, but of course, they would say the same about myself.

[He takes a sip of his drink.]

I suppose I am trying to say that universals are usually non existent, in my experience.
elscion: (Done)

[personal profile] elscion 2017-09-10 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Clark isn't sure he's too comfortable with the idea of who gets to decide where your moral code got developed from so instead, he gives information that's more personal than general.] For me? It was a good man. Jonathan Kent, my father... he's the one who taught me the difference between good and bad. I guess he was only one man though, so his ideas could've been wrong. [Which hurt him because, as an adult, Clark knew that certain ideas Jonathan had were wrong and had maybe caused more bad than good.]
