MOVE-IN DAY
Welcome to Cadelle, cuddlers! The city is — for the most part, at least — very happy with the first wave of volunteers who have chosen to spend time here! To help everyone get settled a little easier, Mayor Drake and her team have put together a series of helpful booths, each staffed by friendly citizen volunteers who are more than ready to answer any questions characters may have.
▸ First things first: visitors will need to visit City Hall to officially enroll as a Cadelle citizen. Once complete, they'll receive their Welcome Packet, which will include all of the most important items for settling in. Characters will find keys to their apartment and associated mail box, their housing assignment, and their pre-activated CuddleCard, ready to go. In addition, the volunteer coordinators have included a newly printed map of the city, as well as contact information for various city-run organizations, just in case!
▸ Due to the influx of energy from all of the new visitors, the city’s computer systems have been experiencing some "minor hiccups". While this is nothing to be concerned about, characters may find themselves mildly inconvenienced — they may have received keys that don’t work in their door, or been issued someone else's room assignment unknowingly!
▸ If they've arrived during regular business hours, characters are, of course, able to visit the maintenance office on the first floor of each building for help switching out their mismatched keys or determining their correct assignment. However, getting settled after hours will require a little extra creative problem solving — like asking a new friend if sharing a bed for the night seems reasonable, sleeping on the couches in the public lounges downstairs, or maybe even roughing it for the night outdoors. (Of course, there's always the frowned-upon methods of breaking and entering... not that you heard it from us!)
▸ As with any move-in day, there’s bound to be lots to see and do. Characters may need help carrying their things, or even just help finding their way around. If they're lucky enough to find their room without problem, they may not be so lucky in their assignment. They may find themselves living underneath someone who's got to be part elephant (who stomps that much at 6 AM?!) or just above someone who insists on burning every batch of popcorn they make! Get out there, meet the neighbors, and see what this city has to offer!
CITY SCAVENGER HUNT
A few days after the big move-in weekend, characters will find an unread message on their CuddlePhone, encouraging them to check out the CuddleTalk network for a very special message from two very special guests. When they do, they’ll find a cute (but admittedly very cheesy) video message from Cadelle’s volunteer coordinators, Flora and Cornelius. The video highlights a few of the most popular destinations in the city — Blaze Pizza, for example, the home of the ninety-second wood-fired pizza, or Dinah’s, where you can enjoy a literal bucket of fries perfect for sharing.
At the end of the video, a link will come up for characters to click if they are so inclined. They’ll be directed to a sign-up page for a city-wide scavenger hunt, with a grand prize promised for the first team to complete the challenge.
Want to participate?
▸ Characters will be able to sign up for the scavenger hunt either on their own or with a friend. (The prizes remain the same regardless of the size of the team, so if your character wants all the money for themselves, they'll either want to race it alone or pick a very generous teammate!)
▸ Among the many delicious dining destinations around Cadelle, characters will discover three venues that the volunteer coordinators have tapped as their current favorites. Somewhere in those three venues, characters will find a beautiful framed photo of Flora and Cornelius.

▸ When characters find the photo, they'll be instructed to take their best selfie, being sure to capture themselves, the framed snapshot, and their teammate (if they chose to bring one along) in the shot.
▸ The first group to send in all three selfies will win the grand prize — one month's stipend worth of extra CuddleBucks! However, all competitors who complete the challenge will be rewarded with a token of appreciation — one week's stipend worth of CuddleBucks, just for playing along!
▸ While characters explore the city, they just might find some "bonus" surprises along the way. Keep your eyes peeled!
Helpful Hint: To find the secret locations (and any hidden bonuses along the way), check out our CITY DIRECTORY for all the amazing destinations your character can explore! Feel free to sort by category on the left, and click your way through your first big adventure in the big city!
Mod Note: For fairness, the "grand prize" winner will be determined by RNG in a drawing on August 4 at 3:00 PM. If your character would like to be eligible to win the grand prize, please be sure to leave us a comment so we can include them in the drawing!

She's even cuter, though, with that little mix between shy and mischievous settled onto her softer features than he'd already thought she was. "Why would I turn you in to the authorities? That's a pretty crappy way to try to get to know a pretty girl," he points out as he looks over at her with eyebrows lifted and a grin on his face.

It's not that no one's ever complimented Felicity before, but she did spend college decked out on complete goth attire and black hair to match. The black lipstick really, probably turned most people away, not that she gave a damn.
But she isn't that person anymore. She hasn't been for three years now, and when she hears Derek say that, she can't even bring herself to make eye contact quite yet. It's a good thing they're already walking too, because it buys her some time. But eventually, she can tell he's looking at her, and when she turns to see that grin, Felicity gives him a look — like she doesn't quite know what to make of him yet, but she's interested in finding out.
She clears her throat though, in an effort to change the subject.
"I wonder why everyone showed up on the same day. Or why this place plans it that way." An innocuous topic of conversation. Surely.

It also isn't lost on him that she prefers to change the subject over answering his question. Now he's even more curious. Even with that in mind, though, Derek can take a hint. If she's ever going to tell him, she's going to do it in her own time and the first time she's meeting him isn't going to be it, he's pretty damn sure of it.
"Maybe it's just easier to bang out all of the registration stuff like this," he suggests. He wonders, too, but he's trying to tell himself that he can just take things at face value once in a while and it won't kill him.

They're almost out of the huge lobby though, when she sees some people dressed in uniform walking in their direction. They haven't spotted her yet, and to be honest Felicity doesn't really know if they're even looking for her, but her eyes immediately shift to something a little more serious as she tries to come up with a plan to either run or hide. It's not like hacking into orientation wifi is that bad, right? It's like she tried hacking into the city's mainframe.
But as they get closer, she looks up at Derek, who's a good amount higher and bigger than her ... you know, with all those ... muscles ... anyways. She could try to hide behind him, and part of her body language starts to suggest that it's what she's about to do — curl her body closer and use him as a human shield from vision — but when Felicity moves her arms to try and tell Derek to stay right where he is, the orientation packet originally held beneath her arm falls to the floor and a few papers scatter around them.
"Frack," she whispers, beneath her breathe, before she looks up at Derek apologetically and then immediately crouches to the ground to pick them up.
Please let them not notice her.

It's interesting to smell anxiousness in the air and he's pretty sure it's coming from her, but he can't figure out what, exactly, he's done to make her feel that way. Of course, he's assuming that he's the one at fault, which is awfully arrogant of him, if he were to really think about it. It's totally lost on him that her anxiety is coming from the approaching uniformed people, because he hardly notices them.
It's when she drops her papers and he hears that non-expletive that his attention is back on what's happening specifically. He crouches with her to try to help her pick them up and lowers his voice. "Frack?" he asks, wondering if it's like 'fuck' wherever she comes from or if it's something completely different. "Everything okay?"
no subject
Wasn't for her.
She's still crouched down though when she raises her eyebrows at Derek though, now that the moment of alarm has passed.
"You're not a big sci-fi fan are you?"
no subject
"No, not really," he agrees, looking confused and curious. "Why?"
no subject
Which is why Felicity reaches over to give him a firm pat on the shoulder as she shakes her head.
"Because you're missing out. On so much." Said in an over exaggerated way, like she couldn't be more sorry for him. But the teasing ends soon after that, and she gives him a gentle squeeze before letting go. "Battlestar Galactica. It's where 'frak' comes from."
She motions up with her hand, to indicate that they can stand again.
no subject
And he might still not. He probably still won't. But it's worth hearing out, in any case. She's cute. Why not? These apartments are already furnished, so he's guessing there will be a TV he would hardly bother touching. He might as well see if there's at least one reason a week to turn it on. Little does he know that the show has been off the air for quite some time.

"War. Life. The fine line between what makes us human and what doesn't." It's deep Derek. Real deep. "Might be the single most important sci-fi show ever made. Well ... that and Star Trek." There's a few other classics she's not naming, but some of them are technically movies. Not TV shows. "I'll tell you about Star Trek another time."
She smiles when she lets go, even if for some reason she feels a little reluctant to do so.
"Battlestar is a great one to start with. For people who haven't seen the genre, the main point isn't the fact that they're in space."
no subject
"Ah okay, well maybe I should look into it, then. And hopefully I'll hear more soon, in that case, since you're going to leave me hanging like that," he jokes.
Now that they're back on their feet and she's got her things together, Derek's struggling for a reason to keep talking to her without coming across as creepy or annoying. He's coming up a little short. "Can I walk you home?" he offers. He winces again and smiles, shaking his head. "That's weird, right? Forget it," he says, scrubbing at his chin with one hand and having the grace to look embarrassed. They're not on a date, what the hell is he thinking? No wonder he only attracts lunatics.
no subject
The offer to walk her home though does take her by surprise, since Felicity doesn't exactly consider anywhere here to actually be her home. She hasn't even seen her apartment yet and since Derek was right behind her in line, she's guessing he hasn't seen his own either.
Not that she doesn't want him to walk her home, but maybe just not all the way out to her door. Plus, that embarrassed look on his face is completely endearing, and she isn't used to guys being embarrassed around her.
"Which building are you in?" she asks, trying to offer him a save. After she gets her answer, she'll ask, "How about ... we walk out to that big green area together? Then it'll just be like it's on the way?"
no subject
"Gamma," he replies, relieved that she's letting him off the hook after the dumb question. Neither of them have seen their own apartments yet, so it's awfully premature to be offering to walk the woman home. He appreciates that she's not going to give him a hard time about the slip up. Derek Hale, ladies and gentlemen, completely out of practice in this particular part of live as we know it.
He smiles at the suggestion and nods. "That sounds good to me. Fair compromise," he agrees.
no subject
When they first open the doors and get out of the building from orientation, there's bright sunlight outside. It reminds her more and more of her first day of college, seeing all the other students walk across campus, admiring the statues and architecture and huge green spaces. Not that MIT had that many huge green spaces.
"I'm in Alpha," she tells her as they make their way down some steps, and she points to one of the big four buildings in their surroundings. "I think it's that one?"
no subject
He starts in that direction with her and smiles when the reach the building. "I'll tell you what, maybe I'll see you around soon," he says. "I'll leave you out here," he says, not wanting to overstep his boundaries the first time he meets her. "Just know I'll be disappointed if this is the last time I see you."
Derek winks and, with that, he leaves her to find her apartment in privacy.
(( ooc: figured I'd wrap this one up for us lol ))
