With the blizzard come and gone, the city administration makes quick work of transforming the landscape from a post-apocalyptic white dream (or nightmare) to a more picturesque winter wonderland. While the heavy snow drifts are easily plowed away and the sheets of ice quickly cleared from roofs and bridges, the grounds of the city's parks and sidewalks still enjoy their seasonal coating of soft, fresh snow.
By mid-month, new posters begin to pop up on bulletin boards and network advertisements, featuring the cheerful sound of trumpets and the encouraging view of your favorite volunteer coordinators, inviting you to take part in the city's annual winter games. It's not quite olympian, and no previous experience is required — any and all are welcome to sign up for as many events as they'd like, and while medals aren't awarded, winners may very well find themselves bequeathed with something even more fun! (We hear bar tabs and instachecks are all the rage these days!)
Feeling festive? Come join the fun this weekend at the games!
▸ Are you freakishly flexible? Are you beauty? Are you grace? (We recommend not punching the judges in the face.) Ski ballet may be just the game for you! Play your walk up song as you emerge on skis to Cadelle's adoring crowds. You'll have 90 seconds to make your way downhill while twirling, spinning, kicking and leaping your way with style. Don't want to go it alone? This year Cadelle's offering the chance to compete in pairs. Let's hope your chemistry sets the rain slopes on fire.
▸ Does anyone remember that phrase 'Go sit on a block of ice?' Well, the sport of ice blocking takes that little idiom rather literally as participants slide down one of the city's grassier hills with little more than a giant block of ice, graciously provided by the local ice master. First one down is the winner! Though, just as a reminder: the city is not responsible for any stuck tongues, buns, or other body parts that may result from this event.
▸ Are you crazy about water? Are you unafraid of those freezing waves? The sport of polar diving may be perfect for you! Be sure to slather on the providied petroleum jelly all over your exposed skin and climb on top of the recently built high dive board at Lake Bunton — once you're poised and ready, let loose with your best swan dive... or bellyflop. Three judges will score your stylish dive on a scale of 1-10. The best average score wins!
▸ Are you a fixture at Lucky Lanes? Or is that elusive perfect 300 a pipe dream? Either way, what happens when you mix winter weather, pins, and big round balls? Epic fun, of course, in the form of a fantastically frenzied game of ice bowling! Just.... try not to fall over as you do your victory shuffle after you get that 7-10 split.
Of course, if you're not the sporting type, there's still plenty to see and do during the games! Maybe you'll opt to cheer on your friends and neighbors in their exploits — flags, vuvuzelas, and all manner of spectator accessories are available for purchase from nearby vendors, and for those who may not want to spend a fortune, the city offers free decorate-it-yourself kits for banners at the entrance to the viewing stands! More entreprenurial citizens may choose to invest in a willing market; visit the barking traveling bookies to place a wager on your favored winner, or maybe lay down a few cuddlebucks on an implausible yet possible end scenario — Ireland wins but Russia gets the snitch, anyone?
Whether you've opted to practice your best polar bear performance, rolled a turkey on the ice, or maybe just kept warm in your parka on the stands, be sure to keep a space open in the end of your weekend for the city's closing ceremony. There's the traditional pomp and circumstance, of course, in the issuance of awards and winner's trophies; more important and certainly more exciting, though, is the hosted dinner, held outdoors under a gleaming white tent just beyond the shores of Blue Springs Pool. It's a beautiful place to enjoy a delicious meal with friends, so the city certainly hopes you'll make time to attend!
Howdy, cuddlers!
With the excitement of the 2018 Winter Games just around the corner, we thought it might be fun for you to get to enjoy some sportsmanship of your own this time of year. While the Olympic Games are certainly reserved for the best of the best, Cadelle's version is open to all, and focuses less on swiftly navigating down snowy hills on your preferred mode of transportation (because, really, what else differentiates snowboarding from skiing from bobsled racing and luge...?) and more on the way you choose to move! We hope your characters have a blast while they dance on skis, slide on giant blocks of ice, dive into freezing cold water, or just roll an ice ball down a slick plane of frozen grass... or maybe just watch all their friends make fools of themselves instead!
If you have any further questions specific to this event, we encourage you to ask away on our QUESTIONS COMMENT here in this post. If you have general questions, or prefer a more private venue, our GENERAL INBOX (and SCREENED INBOX) is always available for you. In addition, if you've got an idea for a future event, feel free to drop us a line at our EVENTS SUGGESTION POST.
Peace out, girl scouts! We'll see you around! |
▸ QUESTIONS.
Any questions? We've (probably) got answers!
If there's anything we can answer about this event, whether it's specific to your unique plotting dreams or more of a general gameplay inquiry, please don't hesitate to let us know! We know there's a lot to see and do, and we're here for you to make this event one from your wildest dreams... or not. Let us know, cuddlers!

( Sansa hasn't ever engaged in a game quite like this...ice bowling but she's excited to learn it. After watching a few rounds she decides to try for herself. The feel of the ice against her fingers is slightly uncomfortable but it also reminds her of home, of Winterfell, and she holds onto it for a little while before rolling the ball along the path to strike the pins. She only manages to knock down four on her first attempt and considering there's ten, it's not great, but she isn't going to give up. She squints a bit and tries to decide how better to throw her ball this time. )
Do you have any ideas? I've never done this before but I want to get all of the pins if I can.
➨ cheering on
( After the bowling, Sansa goes to watch the ski ballet. She's never done any skiing before and certainly doesn't feel comfortable enough to try and dance on them but she's enjoying watching the others while she has a mug of hot chocolate in her hands. The winter wind pinks her cheeks a bit and she's happy to be out here until the sun sets just enjoying the bite of the air and the feeling of home. Cadelle is so similar to Winterfell in these moments with snow on the ground and if she closes her eyes, she can remember happier days. )
The cocoa is good, if you'd like to try it?

He'd taken a vantage point next to a girl wearing a fur cloak remarkably similar to his own, but that had been because of the draw of familiarity. The offer is still unexpected and he looks down in surprise before taking the cup and carefully taking a sip. The first scent of it is too sweet, but the flavor itself is richer than he'd believed and he smiles as he hands it back.]
It is. I thank you, lady, you are most generous.

[ Baby, in his typical attire of a unseasonable jacket, sunglasses, and earbuds, is standing close enough that he only has to take a couple steps forward to be at Sansa's level. At least, he's wearing a couple layers under the jacket, and also a scarf - a pink one, thanks Kimberly - so he's not quite freezing to death. This is so extremely different from Atlanta, though.
In his ears, Sugarhill Gang drowning out the usual ringing - it's felt a little louder in recent months, but Baby is decided not to contemplate why. He smiles, looking down at Sansa. ]

( Diana has never ski jumped before but after watching some of the other competitors, she feels comfortable enough to try. She's athletic and agile and it's not long before she's zipping down the hills and spinning and pirouetting like she's done this her entire life. The physical things have always come so easily for her and this is no exception. She has no idea if she'll place but she just lives for the thrill of the competition, of getting out there and giving it her best try. When she's finished her latest set, she steps off the path and starts working on unhooking her skis. )
Did you see? I hope I'll place but I'm not entirely sure. There were some others who did really, really well. I've never done this before but I couldn't help but try.
➨ice block
( Diana has a little less luck with the ice block. She thinks, in hindsight, she should have heeded the advice of the administration and used the petroleum jelly they'd offered but now she's here and she's literally stuck on an ice block. There's no real delicate way to get herself out of this situation and she looks to someone off to the side, smiling awkwardly; Diana doesn't have an awkward bone in her body normally but this is something completely outside of her experience. )
A little help? I seem to have gotten stuck.

Ah, the siren song of competition. While none of the events were particularly her forte, the Valkyrie decided the Polar Diving was the most likely to provide the desired adrenaline rush. While not exactly immune to the cold like some, she still had a high tolerance for extremes and wasn't worried about the after-effects. The day of competition finds her appropriately underdressed as she prepares to take her dive. She takes her time, leaping much higher into the air than strictly necessary before beginning her flips and spins and ultimately sliding into the frigid water.
When she emerges from the water, however, she's definitely wishing she'd remembered a towel. And a blanket. And about three more layers of clothes. However she's going to stoically tough it out unless someone offers her a better solution.
Cold-Ass Sledding
This is the funniest thing she's ever seen, she's sure of this, and it's not just the booze talking, though that might definitely be assisting in her mirth as Valkyrie observes the ice blocking. She's not jeering, but her cheers might definitely fall closer to the mocking of the mildly inebriated and endlessly entertained than any kind of actual encouragement.
Choose Your Own Adventure
| While not the most openly sociable of creatures, she doesn't bite (unless appropriate) and will likely be making the rounds to see what all the fuss is about between the various events. Catch her anywhere and everywhere in between! If you'd like to chat about it first, hmu on plurk @ Isonen or pm! |

ugh
Even though she can admit his technique is flawless, she grinds her teeth. She almost has a convincing smile in place by the time he breaks the surface. It's finally a smirk by the time Loki makes it to shore, even though her nearly-chattering teeth are threatening to shatter the illusion of cool, calm, collectedness. Definitely overdoing the cool.
Her arms are crossed instead of wrapped around herself, skin clearly tight from the cold, her hair a long, freezing braid down her back. And as he summons the cloak again from seemingly nowhere she scoffs.
"Now I really can say I've seen more of you than I ever cared to."

With very limited time to choreograph her ski ballet, Izzy spends as much free time on the slopes she can for a couple days, listening to music endlessly until she finds the perfect song to work with. After that, it all seems to come together. While ice skates definitely provided her a real challenge, skis were a breeze in comparison. Her own fighting and fairly acrobatic skills definitely came into play as she danced her way downhill, and on the day of competition she's more than ready to show off. Even more than she's in it to win it she's there to perform. She doesn't have a lot of chances to just do something for herself, so she latches onto them with both hands when they appear.
Leading up to and proceeding her own performance she'll be along the sidelines cheering on the rest of the competition, calling out encouragements and praise. Anyone brave enough to put themselves out there like this deserves the support.
Polar Diving
While definitely not partaking in this particular competition, Izzy wasn't about to pass up the show, silently making judgments of her own based on everyone's apparel choices in addition to their diving techniques. She has a few towels and blankets from her vantage point on the lakeshore, just in case any of the divers happen to be friends or someone that has caught her eye... or anyone who seems to be lacking any of the above to meet them on the shore.
Choose Your Own Adventure
| Izzy is definitely there to mingle, so feel free to catch her anywhere between events if one of the other prompts doesn't speak to you! As always, hmu on plurk @ Isonen or pm if you'd rather. |

[Why yes it is Magnus Bane, approaching Alec's bowling lane with his hands in his pockets. He'd noticed Alec several minutes ago, and it had taken this long to talk himself into going over to him. Texting and gifts of potion ingredients and ant farms aside, it's been a long time since they've just talked, and that's because of Magnus. Since Thor's departure, though, he's been doing a great deal of thinking, almost too much thinking, considering how obvious the answer is.
He stops a few feet away and nods at the stand selling different flavors of hot chocolate over by the ski ballet.]

...which is why Caitlin is hesitating. She's a little later than she'd meant to be and she can already see that Nate's on his way down the hill — looking like he's having the time of his life, but then again, if she could turn to steel if she thought she was going to hit something head on, she'd probably be doing the same thing.
Instead, she's still at the top of the hill and where she needs to be is toward the bottom. Maybe if she hurries, she can catch up and he can make good on his promise to make sure she doesn't get hurt. ...that promise was for snowboarding, she realizes a second too late, as she finally gives in and gives the block of ice a running start and hops on, eyes squeezed tightly shut and hoping for the best, because she's kind of too afraid to do anything else. Killer Frost could keep her safe she's sure, in a pinch, but she'd really rather not let that happen, because she's still struggling to come back out of that when it does. Hence, being here in the first place.
The faster she moves, the rougher the bumps and Caitlin's eyes pop open as Nate gets a little louder and she realizes that she is, in fact, catching up. She's shouting to be heard over his excited laughter and the whoosh of both the wind in her ears (and probably his) and the snow beneath the blocks of ice. )
