CHARACTERS: Gamora & YOU
LOCATIONS: B-Sides, city at large
WARNINGS: None yet
SUMMARY: Catch-all for Gamora while I get impatient waiting for December.

Employment was a new experience for Gamora. Well, employment that first required staying in one city, and then required staying in one place of business. After exploring she had opted for B-Sides. The store specialised in music and what better place to continue the education Quill had started? It made her feel a little at home, like she was still on the Milano listening to his mixed tapes.

Of course it was becoming more and more evident that Peter had missed out on quite a few years of music since leaving Earth. The store was filled with so much for Gamora to discover. The former assassin was standing behind the counter in a Bowie t-shirt and her leather pants, her hair tied back to keep it out of the way as she waited until there was no one to watch while she moved to the music.

When she wasn't at work, she was continuing the culinary adventure that Magnus had started her on with Thai Food. He was right, there really were a lot of choices when it came to Earth food. Next on her list was Paco's Tacos.

Her restlessness might have also gotten the better of her while she tried to familiarise herself with the city and not feel too lonely. She missed Quill. She missed the other Guardians. And maybe she missed the fighting. It was what she had been trained for, what she had been built for. So anything that demanded an exertion of energy was a plus. She might not have her sword, but she didn't need it. She could still punch, and kick, and possibly destroy a few dummies and targets at any establishment that offered a chance to make sure her skills didn't become rusty even after only a few days.

( ooc: as always will match brackets or prose, prose just keeps being my default for starters, soz.

if you don’t want to catch her at b-sides, feel free to catch her elsewhere in the city. she’s got a few things on her list of terran experiences to check off – exploring various cuisines, deja brew, good times, the drive-in (sans car… lol), conch cove etc etc. [plurk.com profile] kindofabigdeal if you want to plot specifics, or want me to write the starter. )

He might not have a way to listen to records right now, but Magnus is determined to get out of the apartment and explore every single day. It's no good sitting at home, after all, and a city like this has all kinds of nooks and crannies, and Magnus is a naturally curious person.

So here he is, jingling the bell over the door of the record shop, already looking fondly nostalgic as he hears Jefferson Starship. The 60s had been fun. Most of the late 20th century had been fun, come to think of it.

Then he sees the flash of green behind the counter and grins, delighted. "Well, hello again," he says as he sidesteps the aisles entirely. "Don't stop on my account," he adds, joining in with the dancing as he makes his way over.

Good, he'd hoped that his sudden appearance wouldn't make her feel too self-conscious to continue. This isn't even the first time he's danced alone to Jefferson Starship, and dancing with someone else is always more fun.

"You know, I saw Jefferson Airplane at Woodstock," he says as the song ends and he finishes by leaning against the counter with a flourish. "That was before Jefferson Starship, of course—oh, are you a Bowie fan too? I miss him."

"Jefferson Starship evolved out of Jefferson Airplane," Magnus explains without a break in his dancing. "They have a complicated history as a band, but 'Somebody to Love' is still one of the best."

When she gets close enough, he reaches out to take her hand and spins her once, just to see how happy she is about dancing with someone, versus just next to someone. "I knew him very well," he says with a fond sigh. "I hadn't seen him in years, but during the Seventies, yes. Very well." There's a little smirk in his smile now. "I've been around long enough to have known some interesting people."

"Of course!" Magnus stops dancing immediately to look up Somebody to Love, one of the classic Jefferson Airplane songs and one that's a little easier to dance to than White Rabbit. Because he's not done dancing and he doesn't think she should be either.

Once her hand finds his shoulder he rests his hand on her waist and spins them both, laughing. "I have a lot of stories, I'd be delighted, but only if you tell me yours," he counters. "Over new, delicious food, listening to new, delicious music. Is it a deal?"

"Is it good?" Magnus presses a hand to his chest, aghast at the very question. "It's one of the best. But only when it's done right. Bruschetta, hmm? We'll try it, we'll find out if it's done right."

And when Somebody to Love is over, he looks over the playlist and puts on Somebody to Love by Queen. "Bloodshed, really. Well, I have a few stories like that. What time are you finished with work?" He spins her again and dips her, just for fun. "I'll wander by and we'll put Bruschetta through its paces."

"Flatterer," Magnus says with a laugh as he sets her back on her feet with a brief thank-you hug. "It's almost tempting to let you keep believing that I'm universally adored. Thank you for the dance, my dear, and I'm looking forward to dinner already."

He sweeps up a pad of paper and a pen and writes down a few more choice titles of Queen songs, recommendations for her to play through the afternoon to continue her education. He's always been biased in favor of Queen, but Freddie had been such a delight. "There you are, that ought to keep you busy. Optional, of course, but if you're in the mood to explore," he says as he hands her the paper with a flourish. "I'll see you at five, then?"

Wait until she starts to learn about alt rock and punk, those are some weird band names. He'll get her there, but in the meantime Magnus is more than happy to stay within the classic rock catalog. He'd had some excellent times there, after all.

"Oh, stop." He cups his cheek with one hand as if to stop a blush from rising, then shrugs elaborately. "That's up to you, but if history repeats itself, I'll find it anyway. And then tell you about it at dinner." And with a wave and a grin, he strides out of the shop, first to walk until he spots Bruschetta and has a look at the menu, and then back to his original task of gathering spell ingredients. Honestly, a shop would be so much easier.

Ferdi was still trying to learn about modern music. Working at a lounge with the sorts of coworkers he has they'd not let him go very long without trying something new. He still loves the music of his era most, the 20s and 30s of the 20th century. But, he understands that this world is different and he was working on expanding his horizons.

It was with some trepidation that he showed up at B-Sides. The sight of Gamora at the counter surprised. He had yet to come across anyone here with skin color that was -- well -- abnormal. He stared for a moment before remembering that that was rude.

He smiled then and stifled his curiosity.

"Hello. Do you have any music recommendations?"

Ferdi gave a nod at her answer. "I am from the thirties so it would all be very new to me," he said. Most music past the classical compositions would be new to him. There were rowdy bar songs that he knew but he hardly doubted those were ever found on recordings. They were most unseemly.

"What is your favorite?" His voice carries a heavy German accent but he speaks with careful precision.
