Thor was still convinced that the city mostly catered to mortals when it came to alcohol. He didn't trust anything from METAMalt outside of his own four walls. He'd already learned that lesson even if he didn't particularly feel shame when it came to nudity. However if the city was hiding something stronger, something from Asgard then he was determined to find it.

And if there was a drinking partner that could keep up with him then all the better. The night would no doubt end at The Deviant. He had a shift to watch the doors late that night, and he knew enough about his own ability to hold mortal drink that any consumption beforehand would not render him unfit for work.

If they did, however, manage to find something stronger then he would most definitely owe his employer an apology and coffee and pastries. At least that seemed to be how the tiny blonde bartender kept apologising to Faith.

[ Thor was looking at the bottles that lined the walls behind her but saw nothing that seemed to come from Asgard. It wasn't surprising. The city did seem to encourage the use of those gems for particularly hard to acquire items. Instead he just smiled at the bartender and ordered something that reminded him of a friend back on Midguard. ]

Yes! I'll have a boilermaker. Perhaps four. Just to start off.

[ His smile grew as he settled on a stool. Tolerance really wasn't an issue, but that was part of the reason why he was still trying to find out what all these bars had to offer. ]

Do you only have alcohol from Earth?

( the term boilermaker is unfamiliar to her. maybe it's a cultural difference, or a nickname; whatever the origin, she doesn't recognize the term. kara is still for a moment, practically paralyzed by confusion until a helpful patron stage whispers the answer she needs. whiskey and a beer, blondie. that's not impossible. she can pour those. a link of four shots of one of mick's favorite whiskeys is set out in front of him, followed shortly by four beers, each with a clean line of foam at the head. )

Cheers. ( as he begins to settle in, she adds, ) Let me guess: you're looking for something stronger?

( they do have something special kept aside. one of caitlin's first drafts, a superbooze intended to serve as a replacement for hard liquor for those with stronger tolerances. she hasn't had any yet, but barry'd been a good first test subject; he'd nearly fallen over after too large a first shot, so she thinks it's safe to say it's strong enough. )

[ Thor waited for the drinks to be served before he dropped a shot into his first beer and drank it rather quickly. Though it was normal pace for him. He licked his lips and gave a nod of appreciation. The drink definitely brought back memories of that night with Selvig. ]

I am, yes. Is it hard to find around here?

[ He set about drinking the second and third in the line, pausing only when he got to the fourth. ]

There seems to be more than a few enhanced citizens, surely they require something stronger.

[ He was due to meet one of them, and Rogers certainly fell under that category. ]

Well, no. I guess it's not.

( there's the brew from metamalt, at least. that's well advertised enough by now that kara feels no issues with pouring a shot or mixing a rough cocktail if someone asks, but it's not very popular either. perhaps simply the fact that alcohol usually wasn't something they could drink kept most of the "enhanced citizens", as thor called them, uninterested. for now, anyway. )

There's a brew from the new store by the University, the MetaMALT? It's just not very popular. I don't think it tastes very good, to be honest, even if it does make me feel like I'm floating.

( because, yes, kara's a giggly drunk. the kind that thinks she's floating in mid-air — which, admittedly, is usually because she is, inhibitions lowered enough that her natural abilities of flight aren't kept tamped down. )

I have some here, if you wanted to try it? Or something a friend of mine's been working on, but it's not quite ... perfected yet, I guess you could say.

[ Thor's hands immediate went up as he gave a shake of his head. METAMalt? No way he was having any of that in a public place again. Nudity wasn't exactly on the menu this early in his bar crawl. ]

No, no METAMalt. I've already experienced one of the drinks that place has to offer. You are lucky you had the feeling of floating.

[ He scratched at his beard again before finishing the last boilermaker and licking the excess alcohol from his lips. Trying a new drink had already seen him become naked, but perhaps the side effects of the other drink she was offering were less confrontational. ]

In what way has it not been perfected? If it has nothing to do with being naked then I might be game.

( she's confused, at first, by his reference — what would being naked have to do with drinking? — but eventually, kara catches on. he must have tried one of the other brews available at the tasting. mick had mentioned there were a few on offer, one that did funny things to your clothes, but she had just assumed it might have made them fit strangely or perhaps change color. falling off altogether wasn't exactly what she'd had in mind. )

I don't think we're talking about the same drink. ( the METAMalt bottle lives on a low shelf, out of sight, but it's easy enough to pull up to the countertop. while the emperor's new brew offered a vibrant orange color, smell and taste, the classic is just barely blue in appearance, with barely any smell or taste at all. it's almost like colored vodka, if you had to make a comparison. kara pours a small amount, just barely enough to coat the bottom of a shot glass, and pushes it towards thor with a gentle touch. ) This one is strong, but it won't affect your clothes.

( unless he willingly takes them off, but that's a whole different ballgame. )

I don't think this tastes very good, though. My friend Caitlin is trying to make one that tastes a little better, but hers just kind of tastes like rocket fuel...

[ Thor had no interest in taking his clothes off voluntarily. Certainly not in this venue. He watched her pour the blue drink. It certainly didn't look as strong as the alcohol available on Asgard. It didn't smell the same either.

He sniffed the shot glass once more before downing it. As much as he might have protested about the smell - and now the taste - Thor was still willing to try. He would drink anything unless it was truly foul. ]

Definitely not the same drink. The other one tasted of vanilla.

[ He may have still looked down to check his clothes just in case. ]

I cannot say I have ever ingested rocket fuel, so I'll take your word on that. You are right though, this one has no real taste. If only the city brought in drinks from my realm.

It's not great, I know.

( a small shrug of her shoulders, and kara takes back the shot glass. it's useful for pouring, but since the alcohol is so dull in flavor, the shot glass alone doesn't make for a very enjoyable drink. might as well mix it. pouring the contents of a now-full shot into a larger glass allows her to top it off with soda water, lime juice, and a few fresh slices for garnish. )

In the last bar I worked, my old boss really liked this. Well, with vodka, not... whatever you want to call this stuff, superbooze or whatever. But vodka, soda, and lime. That was his favorite. Maybe this will be better?

( the last version of leonard snart had had particular tastes. mick had taught her how to pour beers, and leonard had taught her a few classic cocktails. not exactly the sort of thing you'd expect supergirl to learn, but at least it had been educational. )

I can't say I've ever had it before.

[ Mixers weren't something Thor tended to gravitate towards. Beer was as bubbly as it got. He sniffed at the drink, and he had to admit the lime made it slightly more appealing.

He sipped at it, the bubbles in the soda going up his nose a little. He didn't dislike the drink, but he also wasn't completely sold. Maybe it would grow on him. ]

It's certainly different to what I'm used to. Not sure it replaces a boilermaker.
