( the first class is held on a weekend afternoon in the sunny dance hall of doo wop's, the worn maple flooring newly polished for the occasion, chairs and tables pushed aside to leave plenty of space cleared for a group to learn steps and passes and turns.↪ shop til you drop.
kimberly comes early, well before the start of class, before instructors begin to corral the group into smaller clusters or pairing off partners. it gives her an opportunity to stretch against the barre, to adjust to the feeling of the floor under her feet as she bounces on her heels; the sprung flooring offers more comfort than the hard surface of the gym classroom where she teaches, though it's less forgiving than the natural texture of grass and dirt she remembers from so many football games back in angel grove.
feel free to join her for warm-ups, or perhaps you're in need of a partner — just be sure to let her know if you prefer to lead or follow. )
( sure, it's technically a ball, but at the end of the day, it's a fancy party with dancing and food and all the people you know. therefore, as far as kimberly's concerned, this is basically just a grown up version of prom — and just like prom at home, this one would require finding just the right dress.↪ wildcard
on this particular day, she's mostly interested in scoping out her options. there are plenty of dresses to choose from, from little black numbers and long white gowns to everything in between, and she's tried on at least a dozen thus far with nothing in particular standing out. it's a little overwhelming, if she's totally honest, but she'll prevail.
she has to. she can't just show up to the big to-do in just any old something, after all.
should you happen to join her in front of the next rack, maybe you can help her find something new to try on. or maybe you'd like to offer your critiques in the dressing room, with its unforgiving 360-degree mirror. don't worry, she can take it. )
( want something different? feel free to throw something at me, or hit me up atsemicolons or supergirl#2740 for a custom starter if you prefer. )

Oh my God.
This was the coolest thing that had ever happened to him. It was like some kind of amazing Power Ranger type person that was -- okay, knocking him on his ass because they were strong and he was in the way but that aside -- working out? Training? Rooftop badassing? He wasn't sure what the term was but he looks up at her, a dopey smile on his face.
Should he be scared? He doesn't feel scared. Fearless villains who actually want to knock him down usually don't apologise.]
I'm fine, I'm just -- woah. [He pulls himself up.] Loving the costume design.

maybe looking around before she launched off a rooftop would be a good next step, though. just a crazy idea to consider.
but while his reassurance of physical well-being is definitely appreciated, kimberly can't help but wrinkle her brows at the rest of his statement. costume? a quick glance down at her palms, covered in softly shining pink armor, and she shakes her head. zordon will kill her for it, but she's kind of over the whole secret ranger concept. it's not like anyone here would even know how to spill her secret back home. the grey shield snaps back into the helmet, leaving her face — and therefore her identity — exposed as she replies. )
It's not a costume.

[It wasn't a costume so he guessed it wasn't a cosplay? And given those sweet moves, it seemed hella unlikely. And this place was full of surprises so who the hell knew? Maybe this was the real deal. She certainly moves like it.
He doesn't recognise her face but the set up, the look, the confidence she wears it all with - it certainly felt like a ranger.]
So what do you call it? Can I--Can I just...? [He trails off as he reaches out and knocks his fist against her arm plate, feeling the material.] Woah. Okay. this is some solid armour. Damn. Where'd you get this?

( how do you explain magical armor that just shows up when you think about your friends back home who are kind of here and kind of not? how do you explain coins that were buried inside a gold mine in your hometown that your friend unearthed after illegally trespassing and blowing up a wall? you don't, that's how. you just don't. so kimberly can only shrug again, staring a bit blankly at him. )
Wait, do you... like, recognize it? Like, as a thing that would be a costume?
