EVENT: LIFE'S A BEACH

EVENT: LIFE'S A BEACH

Is it hot in here, cuddlers, or is it just us? No, it's definitely hot — the end of summer is here, and a few miles out from the city, on the beach, the scene is set: if you’ve been able to follow’s Baby’s clues, they led you here.

The dress code is — surprise, surprise — beachwear, but do think of bringing some layers to cover up these beautiful bikinis and all, because the night could get a little chilly if you stray too far from that bonfire. And, of course, if you don’t want to be that exposed, it’s not like the dress code is a mandatory thing, either. (Just don't be surprised if you hear a few disappointed groans from the audience if you come all covered up.)

The first thing that can be seen is a BAR, with a large poster advertising CriminALES at its front. Like any good beach bar, beers and cocktails with tiny little umbrellas in them can be obtained for a small price — or for free, if you're suave enough to impress the bartender on duty. Nearby, SNACK TABLES feature a veritable buffet of edibles, ranging from chips to brownies to crudites and dips (all courtesy of Kimberly and Clary, thank you!). However, if you felt like bringing your own food and alcohol to the party, you won’t be turned away.

Further down the beach, dry wood has been piled up in what looks like an imminent BONFIRE; if you're a little too delicate to rest on the sand, don't worry — there are plenty of bean bags, cushions, and blankets. Feel free to cuddle up to someone familiar, or maybe a new friend, and enjoy the roaring fire once the sun sets.

Beyond the obvious entertainment of the sun, surf, and sand, your party planners have gone to great lengths to ensure everyone is ready to have a great time. Near the bar, inflated beach balls and other toys are strewn around, and the beach's VOLLEYBALL COURT is no stranger to a game or two. As the night goes on, there just might be a few DRINKING GAMES started — "spin the bottle", anyone?

Of course, a party hosted by Baby himself wouldn't be the same without the all-important KILLER TUNES. Nestled directly to the side of the seating area, a makeshift DJ booth flanked by tiki torches serves as the beating heart of the party, and marks the start of a large square expanse of sand, a DIY DANCE FLOOR cordoned off by a large speaker in each of the four corners, all connected by links of colorful bunting.

As promised, the MUSIC will be blasting until the morning, ranging from massive party tunes (no, but seriously) to romantic ballads for those who feel like a slow dance. There are also, strewn around, some serious dancing jams because what’s a party without some exquisitely cheesy songs? Later on, when there is less dancing and more lounging around, quieter, softer classics will be put on as background music. Feel free to MAKE A REQUEST (or ten), or even steal the mic and sing a little song yourself!

Come on down, Cadelle, and give the summer one last hurrah before it goes away. As the unimitable Ella Fitzgerald would say, "it's summertime, and the livin' is easy."

The mod team is so excited to post our first PLAYER-HOSTED EVENT! If your character has the desire to host an event of some kind, be it a party, a grand opening for their business, or something else all together, please don't hesitate to let us know via our EVENT SUGGESTIONS POST!

For help with this, or for any other concerns, please feel free to reach out to us via our GENERAL INBOX (or SCREENED INBOX, if you prefer). Have fun, cuddlers, and don't forget your SPF!

[It may be hot, but Kieren can't feel it, of course. He is hoping that the change is going to start happening again, soon, but until then...he's just his normal undead self.

He did find something a bit more light to wear than his normal jumper and hoodie outfit, at least.

He couldn't partake in the food or the drinking..or the sports, really (lack of coordination since his death), but he was more than happy to sit on the beach on a blanket with his sketchbook and pastels scattered about him, drawing the scenes and people he sees around him.

If he sees someone he recognizes he'll wave them over, but otherwise, he's fine not being the center of attention; anyone is welcome to join him of course, or peak over his shoulder--or notice that he's drawing him. Forever a people watching, anyone who i wearing something interesting, or looks interesting, is going to get a sketch done of them.

He might even give it to them, if he thinks he did well enough on it.]

( There's nothing like an impromptu meeting of the Art Club, though Clary's probably the only one referring to their friendship with such a title. But she's pleased when she sees Kieren, sketchbook spread across his lap. She can't resist bounding over and flinging herself down beside him, probably kicking up sand as she does so. Her shoulder presses into his as she leans in, completely comfortable with invading his personal space. She can't help it, she's just too friendly. )

See, you had the right idea. I should have snuck my sketchbook with me.

( Hey Kieren, hey. )

Are you making good use of all the free life models?

[Kieren rolls his eyes good naturedly, immediately knowing who it is before she even speaks--there are only two people he knows that are that unabashedly willing to touch him, and only one of them would crash into him like she does.]

And see I thought it was a good way for me to cover up that I'm not really a 'beachy' type.

[He puts his pencil down to pull her into a hug.]

And I am; so far no one has found me to be a creep yet, so it's been right good.

Me either.

( The beachy type, she means. ) But when you've got the combined forces of Isabelle and Kimberly telling you to you have to attend, it's better to just go along with it. ( Besides, she is having fun. It's a little surprising, actually. But maybe this is what they all needed. Some time to chill. )

You could always get a little sign and say you'll draw for money or something. Then it's less creepy and more entrepreneurial. I ran a doodle shop in Kindergarten, it worked awesomely until my mom asked me where all the twixes were coming from.

Oh so you were dragged here? [He smiles softly] I came on my own--so I think I am doing a bit better on socializing. [Which is...not normal for him, but he's trying. He really is. He would have asked Credence, but he knows the young man is sad, and this...he probably needs a break.]

I could I suppose? I just--I never really thought about selling my work. [Well, of course, after he graduated uni, but this was different.] Maybe just a sign to say draw for free. Can't work for food or drink, after all.

[Haha.]

You know Twix is originally British?

( With a loud, shocked gasp. ) Are you trying to one-up me? I thought we were friends! ( She is also teasing him very dramatically, he doesn't have to worry. ) I know it'll come as a surprise because I'm super chill and cool, but I'm not really a beach kind of girl. Or a party kind of girl. So this is doubley weird for me. I kind of prefer like, smaller events. Indie gigs. Poetry readings. Somewhere I can drink coffee without my skin being on show.

( Glancing at him. She is the least hermity hermit, it's so weird. )

But you can work for other things you like. Art supplies. Books. I don't know, do you like movies? Things like that. You're good. You deserve the recognition.

And is it? So I was an international crime lord. That's so cool.

[Kieren smiled softly, listening to her. It just really made him feel comfortable; resemblance to Amy or not, she just seemed like a good person, and someone he wanted to get to know better.]

Yeah, I like all of those things, too. I had hoped to do them in uni; not really things to do around my small town. But I definitely get not showing off skin.

[Probably for different reasons than she does, though. But--]

Oh god, movies.

[He laughs.]

So when I got out of the treatment facility, my da bought all these dvds of movies I missed while I was...missing. While I appreciated him wanting to watch films with me and everything, sometimes you get tired of sitting on the couch and watching things.

And...maybe? I don't know. I mean--recognition is nice, but it doesn't mean I need to get anything for it, right?

[That's how you become Van Gogh, Kieren.]

Totally. MI5 is looking for you now.

I think it's different if you're going to the movie theatre. It's more of an experience. But for sure, I find watching DVDs super hard. I always have to be doing something else. Sketching. Reading. Shitposting on Tumblr. Otherwise I can't concentrate.

( Which she knows sounds weird, but whatever. She's a millennial. )

Kieren, oh my god. We're so working on this. You are really great and people should give you money so you can use it to do things and make friends or maybe even date people! Luckily you have me by your side.

( Miming flicking her hair over her shoulder. )

Yeah. I just--there wasn't a movie theater in my town; I can't really travel to one, now. [He gestures to his state.] I mean--back home, at least. Here, it's fine.

[Really, maybe he should think about going to a movie, sometime.

He would be flush now, if he was capable. Instead, he ducks his head, hiding a smile.]

I'm not that great. I honestly don't mind just...doing it for appreciation. But I guess a little money wouldn't be bad. And I'm--I mean, I've been working on a piece for someone, that I like.
