(open) i'm the demon alcohol, let's party
CHARACTERS: Buffy Summers & YOU!
LOCATIONS: The Deviant
WARNINGS: None yet
SUMMARY: Buffy has begun her new job under Faith's employ (so many jokes to be had), so let her fail to mix your drink and listen to your woes. She really will listen and not just talk at you, promise.
[ Was it ironic? Buffy was still mulling that one over even as she turned up for a night of work in Faith's club. Faith was the boss. Faith was giving her orders. Faith was somehow older and wiser and Buffy was the junior here. The world had turned upside down and inside out, and Buffy had come through a rabbit hole where she was still alive and Faith was now in charge of her paycheck.
But hey, no Hellmouth. No graveyards. No patrolling. No having to pull double duty as Buffy and the Slayer. She could just be Buffy. And right now that meant that Buffy was behind the bar, giving herself a crash course in serving things other than beer and whiskey. The shots were easy. She could wrap her head around the shots. Especially when patrons were already too drunk to notice that she might have poured them the wrong spirit.
Cocktails were presenting an entirely different set of problems though. And this was not something she could fight her way out of, or use Mr. Pointy on. She stopped long enough to pull her hair back into a ponytail and wiped up her latest spill before going back to the cards she had stashed behind the bar to read through for a third time how to make a Cosmo.
Somehow she pictured all the alcohol she was using up as coming out of her CuddleBucks when Faith discovered she was testing out drinks in between serving the paying customers. ]

[ Buffy looked around, guaging the crowd and how busy she could end up being, but for now things seemed to have hit a quiet patch. Had word got around that she wasn't so good? Maybe. Hopefully it was more of a case that everyone was too busy dancing and getting to know the other good looking citizens. ] That's appreciated, considering we only just met. And if you really want to know, I'll tell you - demon blood. Usually it was nearly always gooey and some funky colour like green or blue. Bitch to wash out of your hair too.
[ She took his hand and shook it, her grip a little stronger than expected for a young woman her size. She checked her strength when she remembered, but sometimes it couldn't be helped. Side effect of being the slayer. ] Buffy. Pleasure to mix your drink, Jax. Hey, I'm just happy that it worked. Seriously. At least now I can confidently say yes to martinis.

[Demon blood. Demon blood. That sounded a little -- hard to believe. But given where he was, what he did, and how one time he was turned into a bird monster, he didn't have much room to fit skepticism.] Actually, you know what? [The line of his mouth flattened thoughtfully, determinedly as he wagged his finger in tempo with his words.] I think I found your true villain origin story. I mean, the way I hear it Bond villainy definitely pays the bill. [Come in handy with all of the laundry and shopping and other stuff.]
Uh, glad to help with that. [He stated as he flexed his fingers slightly after he dropped it back against the bar. Her grip had been unexpectedly snug. However, it hadn't been painful. Therefore, the gesture more out of surprise than hurt.]

As Bond villains go, probably not the most dangerous but definitely the one with the best wardrobe. There's only so many men in suits you can keep having as bad guys, right? [ She had waited for the questions, but when there weren't any, and he seemed to accept the demon blood thing, she relaxed again. Although it did make her wonder what had happened for him to be so chill with it.
She wiggled her fingers in slight apology. ] Sorry, hazard of the job, well, my original job. My not here job because I can finally retire and enjoy everything else has to offer.

True but that does go ahead and give you the element of surprise. Not a lot of people'd go and expect the cute, blonde bartender to be the evil mastermind. You could definitely use that to up your world domination chances.
It's all right. [He shrugged after he took a sip of his drink.] It didn't hurt. But now I'm gonna make sure to remember to leave that tip. [He joked. He leaned back from the bar, slightly.] How's retirement treating you. This place seems pretty great for it. [It was picturesque -- but without the creepy Pleasantville vibes. The location was beautiful. The people gathered were attractive. And it was decidedly chill (earthquake, aside).]

[ Buffy rolled her eyes at the idea of her former self. But that was the point in growing up, right? You didn't always stay the person you started as. Though becoming the Slayer had given her a kickstart out of her vapid lifestyle. ]
See? Evil plan working already. I don't need to monologue or get in your face. Just slowly bleed everyone dry of tips. Not knowing how to mix drinks is just part of cover. [ Not really, but it made her feel slightly better about it. Her bright smile returned and she made herself comfortable against the bar. Thankfully it really was a quiet patch. ] Well, now I know it's the real deal it's pretty good. I have my new job. Someone I know from back home is here. But, like, ahead of me. So it's weird but good. We had a rocky, ah, acquaintanceship. But she's cool. For the first time in my life I get to genuinely think about what I like doing.
What about you? Not that you have to be retired or anything. But are you down with being here, or wishing you were home?

Damn, girl. You really are good. Okay, you win. All these unexpected twists, man. [ With a shake of his hands Jax put his hands up in defeat for a moment before he dropped one with a soft thud and wrapped the other around his drink. ] It's like you're looking for the hall of fame of supervillains. You're leaving me skeptical about this retiring talk.
[ He nodded thoughtfully as Buffy told a little of her story. He took a sip of his drink as he listened, attentive. ] That's gotta be a bit of an adjustment. With the person back home. But at least you've got room to figure where the two of you are at, right? And that sounds pretty awesome. What've you tried so far?
[ Briefly, Jax's eyes widened before he blinked. The expression was mild before it settled into something more pensive. ] So, it's one or the other, huh? [ But his mouth curved slightly. ] Nah, I'm glad to be here. You know, I mean, yeah there're parts of home that I - I mean if I was having this 'vacation' there instead? I definitely wouldn't complain. But I like it here. I want to be here.

[ Buffy just raised her eyebrows before offering a shrug like it was no big thing. ] Hey, you're the one convincing me I missed my calling. All I need now is a cat to stroke and a chair to spin around in. You've only got yourself to blame if I end up taking over the city.
[ All a joke of course. She really wasn't about to try and take over the city. Hell, she was good just keeping her own life organised let alone everyone else's. As she thought about Faith again her smile was a little more wry. ] Well, she's my boss. She runs this place. That is probably a bigger adjustment than not fighting all the time. It's nice though, knowing she's got my back. Things could have been a lot different between us. You found anyone from home? Ah, apart from this? Not a whole lot. It's weird, but the thing I was most excited about was getting up early in the morning. I did a lot of nightwork, and I mean, this job is nights but nowhere near as exhausting.
It's crazy how good the simple things are. And no, I mean, it doesn't have to be. It can be both. Tell me if I'm getting way too nosy. [ Buffy placed her chin in her hand and looked a little wistful for a second. ] Man, I know that feeling. No vacation for the Chosen One ever. Constantly working. This place definitely has its upsides.
