( the nice thing about a ball like this, kara's decided, is the opportunity to see people in a light you don't often get to enjoy. she's gotten to know derek hale in bits and pieces, as their hours overlapped under the dim lighting of criminales; as a bouncer, he's stoic and sturdy and stern with those that need a good shove out, but he's always been friendly in her direction.
she hasn't had much opportunity at work, though, to see him dressed for something a little more formal. the suit is a pleasant surprise — he wears it well, that much is obvious, and with well-earned pride too.
by the time she finds her way over to him, dinner's long past and the swell of the music is loud in her ears, beckoning her to at least approach the dance floor if not step on it completely. kara's never been a very confident dancer, and while she's taken to letting oliver spin her around a time or two to the slower waltzes, swing is definitely not something she feels quite ready to jump into.
so wallflowering it is, but at least there's company. )
You know, you should wear suits more often. It... suits you.
