( the library is supposed to be a refuge, isn't it? quiet, practical — there are rules here. no talking loudly, no interrupting or bothering someone, no loitering. it's the sort of place a girl could go to read a book, undisturbed, and let her mind wander in the comfort of a plush chair on a top floor. no one ever comes up here, she's come to discover, to the floors of reference books and research texts. it's too dry for a city devoted to pleasure and positivity.

but, lo and behold, someone does. someone who knows her face, whose very existence tugs at something in kara's chest that she can't quite name. guilt, maybe. that kara should have something — someone — that laurel cannot, but hasn't gone to claim it. that she's been ignoring oliver by choice when laurel had to lose him.

she should be less selfish. but then, she should have been able to defeat worldkiller. should haves and should bes don't seem to be doing her any favors lately. )

Hi, Laurel.

( and there's a beat before kara responds, though the offer might sound a little less genuine than before. )

Do you need help with those? They look heavy...
